Ok, there are a few item I have on my quilting wish list, and I'm more than happy to wait for a while to get them. I thought it might be interesting if we could share our thrifty prowess and maybe everybody could save a few dollars.
The Accuquilt Go - lowest price so far seems to be about $224 6 x 24 ruler - lowest (local) price is $15 Kaufman Kona - white $4.98 (fabric.com) synthrapol & retayne - still looking for best price 108" quilt backings - muslin - Joann's with coupon ?? price feel free to add any items... |
I would add three yards of every one of the Moda Marbles.
|
108" quilt backing best price I have seen is thousands of bolts at around $5 or $6 per yard I think it was.
|
My list to find a fair price:
A quality mid size long arm quilting set up. (I want one before Christmas) Every fabric line of Moda pre cuts. |
Batting :D:D:D

How about someone to do the dishes twice a day and dust the house once a week? I'd like that more than quilt backing!

these are the lowest prices i've found so far on Olfa frosted rulers: http://www.carpediemstore.com/mlistC...idCategory=428 |
Michaels for quilt batting with half price coupon. Hobbs queen size 80/20 regular 14.99 - 1/2 price - 7.50 plus tax. Since I'm doing mostly throw size (50 x 60) quilts for Ronald McDonald House, I can get 2 quilts from each batting with some left over. If I do 10" quilt as you go, I can get 3 quilts from each batting making it 2.67 per quilt.

I get Kona at Hancock's of Paducah for 3.98 a yard, but have seen lower prices posted from time to time
AccuQuiltGo is listed at Amazon.com for 218.00 (seller is Fabric Hut) and at Sew Vac Direct for 199.99 (they have good deals on other stuff, too) Check "best price" retailers at nextag.com for just about anything |
Someone sent me this site the other day
http://jhittlesewing.com/sewing/catalog.php they have alot of things at really great prices they also sell the GO! Batting was a biggie for me too! I just opened an acct with Quilters Dream Batting and am waiting anxiously for my first order! honestly a 30yd roll of batting doesn't last that long! |

OK, I just want it all
Would love to have the space for a longarm -- oh, and the money to buy one! :D |
My Joann's has white bamboo/cotton muslin in bolts, half price, about 35.00. And I love the fabric so much I bought a second bolt. It's thin, but has a marvelous feel and drape and is not see-through. It's also 200 thread count, so I feel good using it for pillowcases. nice and soft.

Check out artist supply stores. I found rotary cutters on the mark down table for $3, plexi rulers for $2. ANY markdown table on hardware stores also............. Let's not just shop at the expensive shops, think out of the box!
|
I just discovered a on-line resource for 108" backing called www.backsidefabrics.com. They only sell backing fabrics 108" and up. They apparently carry known fabric brands. Prices seem to be reasonable and the selection is the best I have found. I have placed my first order so can't wait to see what I get.

108" quilt backings - TRY MARSHALL DRY GOODS. That's where I got mine. I think prints are $5.98/yd, solids cheaper. The bendable brite light that attaches to your machine. Someone on the Board found the cheapest source - c. $29, which is cheaper than I got them wholesale. the 8" round rotating cutting board from Come Quilt with Me. I get them wholesale from her so have never looked at other sources. Other than rotary cutter it's the tool I wouldn't do without. |
Marshall's Dry Good for backing

I wanted a long arm too. But then I went on line to Gammill. I figured with everything at least $18,000.00 plus shipping, I no longer want one. I had no idea they had gone up that much.
|
Maybe we should start a thread that published fabric shops with fabric $5 or under?? THAT would help!
|
Wow! That's awesome news about Batt-Mart! I had no idea they would do that. I'll remember them when I purchase my next order.
Thanks for letting us know! |
I see in our area that Mill Ends Textiles has 108" backing for $5.00/yard Not bad
|
This is my greatest want too! Someone to come quilt with me. I am in Western NC just outside of Asheville. Want to come and play?

"I found a 6 1/2 x 24 ruler at Tuesday Morning for $4.99. The top of my wish list is a dedicated sewing room!"
...ahh another stop today just to go see..... I love that so many people here would like a quilting companion. I am adding that to my list too!!!! |
I bookmarked a long list of websites selling new & used quilting machines that I found doing searches for longarms. Followed the lists for a good while watching the machines added & taken off the websites. It helped me find the best price for my 2001 Gammill Classic that I ended up buying at a great price. If it'll help, I'll type up the list or figure out how to send a bookmark file to you.
