I saw the Missouri Quilt method but like 2 sqs together draw diagonal line then 1/4"lines sew and cut. Works for me

I have to go with Kay England's NIFTY NOTIONS RULERS - If your LQS doesn't carry them you can go to her website. She also has DVD's on using them. Half Square and Quarter Square etc. Other people have copied but I like the colors on her rulers better as they are easier for me to read. Will replace the Omni's I have as soon as they wear out. Best thing is almost no fabric waste & at these prices!
Have you tried the Altos cutting system? Check them out on line with the accurate strips I cut with those. I don't have to recut or square anything. Just sit and sew. If I sew straight perfect corners mist every time. |
I also think that the wonder cut ruler is the best, here is a you tube Demo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFnRz7QaVBg

My opinion is, hands down the Nifty Notions ruler for Half triangles is the quickest and easiest way to make half square triangles.
http://www.pineneedles.net/store/pc/...3&IdCategory=0 Also here is a blog that has a tutorial on how to use it, and some other information that is helpful: http://emsscrapbag.blogspot.com/2008...y-notions.html $10 saves you a lot of time, not to mention fabric. But like anything you might need to experiment to see what works best for you. Hope this helps! |

I always make mine a little larger and then trip to size using the sewn seam to square up with. !! The traditional formula is: FINISHED of HST block + 7/8" = Size of starting squares. I don't bother with eighths of an inch. Just add at least 1" (I usually add 1.25"-ish) to the FINISHED size, use the method as described by QuiltE, and you'll be golden. I would use one of the paper piecing methods - Thangles, Triangles on a Roll, etc -though if I had a hundred or more to do. ??? Or maybe not since I do have the Alto's QuiltCut2. Maybe I'd chain piece them all. ali |
I have the Triangulations software and LOVE it! I can make hst super fast!
