I have learned to do both the hard way I now have "3" new tools in my S/R=A magnet on a stick and a whisk broom and dust pan from Harbor Frieght Tools for $3.98 way cheaper than paying the ER $380.00 to remove part of a 10 cent needle

I wear thick soled sandals, Earth Works from WalMart, for that very reason! Watch puncture wounds, they are prime targets for Tetanus. When was your last shot?

moral of my story....should it be 'tidy up in future' or just 'wear shoes' ? |

I lost a needle once and I was getting ready to steam clean my carpet and found it stepped on it not only once but 3 times before I could find it, had to pull it out with pliers. I wear shoes or sandals now.

I wear shoes.

"step softly & carry a big magnet!"
Maybe keep a broom by the door to sweep the mess to the side until you are done with the whole project or tie a string to your scissors so they can't fall to the floor!
OOooooo, I was sewing clothing when I was in my 20's and tucked a pair of sharp scissors under my thing, sitting on the floor, and later pulled my other foot up next to that thigh and stabbed myself in the heel...talk about pain...OOoooWeeeee! ! ! !. It smarts!....I hope you feel better soon......
I would default to shoes. Even a pin can attached itself to the soles, but better than your foot!

In my house there's a saying --- nothing good ever happens in the sewing cave after 10:30p.m. I SWEAR ever stitch I take after that bewitching hour meets up with Jack the Ripper the next day! |
Although I am sometimes guilty of not wearing shoes, I KNOW I should. Glad I had them on the other day, Some upholstry tacks had gotten knocked over and I stepped on four of them, they were completely imbedded in my shoes.
Me too . I sew bare footed. But there is also pain involved if I step on pins and needles which I have done.

Wear shoes. I find pins on my floor even though I clean up.

I always wear crocs. I use my pedal barefoot and the crocs slip on and off easily.

I can't believe no one said
GET A TETNUS SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know two people who died of tetnus because they didn't think it necessary or who thought they'd probably gotten one recently enough. Last year I fainted (in summer I have to take extra salt because I don't seem to retain it) and hit a vortex fan. Blood all over, injury actually rather minor but hubby took me to emergency and first thing they did was give me a tetnus shot. So, please, GET A TETNUS SHOT!!!!! |
I always wear shoes. Heard too many bad pin stories.

Sorry, for duplicate reply. |

just dont sit on them, like I did years ago. freaked my dad out. that almost made it worth it. The tetnus shot in the other cheek was worse. LOL. oh, yea get a tetnus shot if you are not up to date.
Both Honey both!
Ouch - oh I can feel your pain. I haven't been attacked my scissors, but I invariably will step on needles or pins - very painful ouch. But I have been "stabbed" with my slippers on, so it pays to be careful.
I never enter my sewing room without shoes on my feet! I've never had a problem but, many years ago, one of my students trod on a needle at home and was off school for several weeks!
Shoes, I think. Ha, Ha.
shoes.............I don't like shoes
Ouch! So sorry you hurt yourself. Our sewing places are such a haven for us all that it's easy to forget that they are chock full of sharp objects. I'm amazed by the number painful accidents that are mentioned here on the board.
wear shoes
I am so clutzy I HAVE to wear shoes. Goodness only knows what I might do to my feet without them...and believe me, I know myself well enough to know I'm not taking any chances!
Hope your cut heals uneventfully and quickly! |
Semi-tidy should suffice. Keep all sharps above hip level and you should be fine. I hope your pain subsides quickly.
Oww that sounds painful Sorry for your pain. Shoes to avoid all things on floor. I hope you get better quick. Sue
OUCH! I go barefoot , that hurts. Heal quickly.
I vote for shoes! As many times as I have dropped a kitchen knife through my foot, I figure I am just on borrowed time until I lose a toe to a rotary cutter or something!! Always. Shoes.
Hi to all
I have to share what happened to me yesterday it must be the day of the feet in the sewing room. I dropper my 24 in ruller on my toe and it cut, and man is it sore. He he he he Maybe I should have steal toed boots on when I sew. lol |
I do not allow anyone in my sewing room without some type of foot protection - shoes, tennies, sandals, flip flops. There are just too many ways to hurt your feet when barefoot. And I cannot stand and cut fabric, nor press fabric/seams/blocks when barefoot. I need the support of something on my feet.

I agree with others, wear shoes. You never know what you may find on the floor.
