Big and quick surprise

Our Pfaff sewing centre is closing down since the owner feels that, at the age of 80, he is now ready to stop working. So, last Wednesday I got a call from his daughter, who does the admin part, to say they have one more quilting machine - the 4.0 - and I can have it for N$4 000 less than the asking price ( that would be about US$ 480). Then there was a discussion with DH and sad references to my beloved current Pfaff being 19 years old and hints about even a Rolls Royce reaching the end of its natural life. The pitch must have been okay, because we then went to the bank and made arrangements and I had my lesson on Thursday. Got the new beauty on Friday, devoured the manual Friday evening and started playing on Saturday. What utter joy! Luckily by best friend is also a quilter and has the same model so you can imagine how much fun we had during our usual Saturday sewing session.

I also got a huge bag of Zwicky threads, needles and extra spools at some discount.

Having to leave home this morning was very tough, not only because winter has set in, but also because I have to wait nine hours before hitting my sewing haven tonight.

Thanks for sharing my joy and happiness.

Enjoy it and glad you got it in time for a lot of winter sewing.

QuiltingKrazy 06-18-2012 09:44 AM

I think we quilters get way more excited about new machines than we would about new cars! I know I do!

crafty pat 06-18-2012 09:49 AM

Isn't that wonderful that your friend has the same machine? She can teach you things you didn't learn from the dealer. Congrats!!!! I'm always happy when a quilter gets a new or used machine!

Lori S 06-18-2012 04:20 PM

Is there anything better than a wonderful new bright and shiny toy to play with!!!? You will have so much fun figuring all the great "stuff" your new machine can do.

Congratulations! I know you will enjoy your new machine.

It's strange to see you talk about winter when I'm sitting here in humid 80 degree weather ... that is until I realized that you are in southern hemisphere ... Australia?

One more reason to love this board .... broadening our environments!

SoBuzy 06-19-2012 05:16 AM

Whoa! What fun!! .. ENJOY!! Hope you share your ups and downs with your new toy!

Silver Needle 06-19-2012 05:18 AM

Hope you have as much fun with your new machine as we intend to with the 2 vintage ones we picked up yesterday.

I live in Namibia - south western part of Africa. Our winters are actually very mild, although we are experiencing a cold front at the moment. Nevertheless, I'm not even wearing my winter unmentionables - yet. My office gets afternoon sun and I've saved up some reading to sit and do in the sun. Let's hope I stay awake till it's finished!

Hi Silver Needle,
In this case it is the excitement of "new-to-me" that we share. Enjoy your wewing adventures. I have a vintage that belonged to my DH's grandmother, but it is used as a show piece on its original Singer table. One day....... And then I also inherited one from an old aunt of his which I still have to transport from South Africa to Namibia. Another one day .......

When you said winter is setting in I had to look up where you are. Gosh, Namibia? I learned that it's in South Africa. You're so far away from me yet this site gives us all a common bond. Congrats on your new machine.

QandE2010 06-20-2012 08:42 AM

That is exciting news. I am doing a happy dance for you. Enjoy your new baby.
