I have the small twister to use on 5" blocks. I just wondered what size the tool is to use on 10" blocks.

The 6 1/2" must be the size to use on 10" blocks. It measures 9 1/4" corner-to-corner diagonally. Thanks for helping me figure this out.

amma 07-29-2011 08:13 AM

Wow! I didn't know there was one available for 10" blocks :D:D:D

sewmuchmore 07-29-2011 08:37 AM

Ok ~~~I have to ask, what is a twister tool? What does it look like, how do is it used?

jean1941 07-29-2011 08:45 AM

The large twister tool is 8" square for 10" blocks or layer cakes. There are 4 sizes available.

scrapykate 07-29-2011 08:56 AM

I have used the small twister tool as a boarder for a wall hanging. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-128042-1.htm

you sew 5"squares together and then using the lines on the twisting tool, cut little squares out that overlap from one block to another. really very effective but time consuming.

needles3thread 07-29-2011 10:27 AM

What size are the blocks for the different sizes of twister tools?
I only have the small one & would like one to make larger blocks.
Let me know if you have one for sale & price.

The 8" tool uses 10" blocks, the 3½" tool uses 5" blocks, the 2¼" tool uses 3½" blocks and the 1½" tool uses 2½" blocks.

Can anyone tell me where to get the new smaller ones? I've looked online and can't find them. My LQS's don't carry them...

sewmuchmore 07-29-2011 01:20 PM

Thanks, I think it maybe a little over my head right now. I do love the quilts that was made with it.

jdiane318 07-29-2011 01:24 PM

The two smallest ones, can be purchased at www.primitivegatherings.us. Hope this helps. They come with a pattern so you have to buy the pattern to get the template.

I don't see them anywhere on the site!
I only see the Twister and the Lil Twister, the original ones.
PLEASE advise :)

Connie in CO 07-29-2011 04:32 PM

You have to print in the Search Primitive Pinwheels, and their on page 2.Connie in CO

jdiane318 07-29-2011 04:43 PM

They are on page 2 and 5.

Charming 07-29-2011 06:42 PM

Just measured mine for you and it is 8" square and used with 10" squares of fabric

TeresaR 07-29-2011 07:01 PM

It is not as hard as it looks. You just sew the squares together and then cut them back apart. lol It is really fun and goes together really fast.

marymm 07-29-2011 07:58 PM

Probably the best way to find one is to Google "Twister quilt tool." I bought the original lil twister and the bigger one for layer cakes. Add the book and it was an investment. My bee met at my house this week--just five of us--and we tried them both out. Everyone went home with a table topper almost finished. We had a lot of fun and all turned out so different looking.

Why don't you just make your own out of plexiglass? I made mine that way, way cheaper than the readymade ones. You can buy the sticky plastic feet at the dollar store to hold it up off the fabric to prevent slippage. There is a thread on here somewhere addressing this subject.

They're available as "X-blocks" from
www.queenquiltdesigns.com

playswithcolor 07-30-2011 05:46 AM

Diane thank you for posting pictures of your twister quilts. i have had the large size twister ruler for about a year.

I really like your quilts. I'm getting the idea that contrast is whats important when choosing fabrics.

Every time i see a picture of a twister quilt it starts telling me to please bump it to the top of my to do list.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-30-2011 06:02 AM

Thanks for all the help.
Watterstide- I love yours!!

I can't see spending that kind of money on the teeny ones.
The other link has better prices or I may just see if I can make my own.

I have the large one. I want the smaller ones but don't want to spend the money. A while back someone on here had instructions on how to make them. I am just going to make me one when i get caught up on the projects i already have started. Leaves more money for fabric, i think i am addicted to it. lol

For those who want to know what a twister tool is and what the resulting quilts look like, you might do a search at top of the page for "twister." There have been lots of beautiful quilts made. It's a fun project. I understand it may be based on a "Magic Pinwheel" pattern in a magazine (maybe an Australian one, but not 100 percent sure.)
