I'd do like Homespun described. Or, you could do like my grandmother did on a hand-pieced, hand quilted one, using the backing she made a facing and hand stitched it on in so a knife edge around the quilt. Super cool, but I shelter than quilt in an acid free box!

The backing fabric that was used on the quilt is very fine and thin like a batiste so I don’t think it would hold up as a binding or facing. I got the binding sewn on yesterday afternoon after looking at a few UTUBE videos. It is not the best job of it but at least it is on and the quilt will be usable. As soon as I finish sewing the binding down on the back, I will post a picture.
