I always thought it put less stress on the seam & would not pull apart as easily. BUT... As they say, "There are no quilt police. Do what works for you!"

ok, I got the binding on tonite, thanks everyone for your help. I just got to finish hand sewing the back then I can post a pic for you to see. I actually think it turned out nice considering it isn't my usual binding. Maybe that is a good thing!

I am so glad you asked this question, sometimes I have cut a straight seam on my charity quilts and I was thinking am I doing something wrong...it worked. I try to do the diagonal more often now.

If you don't have enough fabric don't do it on an angle. However it is much less bulk when attaching the binding doing it on an angle. No quilt police here.

It's a personal preference. I like it better diagonal.

Sounds like your binding will be very artistic. Adding 2" squares in will need straight seams. Hope you post when it is done.

The only time I do not use a diagonal cut is if the fabric is striped.
