I need to put binding on my quilt, and now have to piece what material I have left, will have just enough. Question is why do we have to cut at a angle to add more binding? Gee, did that make sense? I got 2" squares of diffrent colors that I wanted to add to the binding.

The seam is not as obvious when it is a diagonal.

You can do straight seams. Some people do it like that, others do angled seams. It is really personal preference. Not a problem to do straight seams.

I have done both, I feel that the diagonal seam lays down better when I am handstiching the back on...

There is less bulk to work with, but you can press the seams open, to reduce it a bit :D:D:D

Oh good, that is the answer I was hoping for, I just need to do this on this particular quilt. I always did angle seams before.

I have done both. the final decision is up to you. Diagonal just means the seams are staggered more.

it looks better joined at an angle and you don't have to do a perfrect 45 degree. Overlap what you have. make an angle mark and be sure you have seam allowances and sew on whatever angle it is.

I like the look of diagonal seams, but have done it both ways depending on how much fabric I have

ok, will need to press the seams open to reduce bulk. This quilt has been a pistol from the start. No reason the binding shouldn't be difficult too!
