I use 2 1/4" strips, then use a 3/8" seam to sew it to the quilt. When I turn it, it fits perfectly. BTW, I machine sew all my bindings, so I sew them to the back of the quilt, then turn them to the front and topstitch in place. |
2 1/2 and a quarter inch for me!

Depends on how thick your batting is and how much "extra" you have left to the outside of the quilt when you trimmed it. I like a fat binding so I use 2 1/2" and leave a little more than 1/4" extra batting on the outside

I use two and a half. It is the size that works for me.

I cut my binding 2-3/4" fold in half, press and sew on with a 3/8" seam. I followed Lynette Jensen's directions, hers was the first books I started using and now I just do it on all my quilts, I feel much better sewing it on with the 3/8" seam.

I use 2 1/2".

I have a question about that. I was planning to do the same the next time but if you have a quilt with points and no border, does it cut off some of your points? If so is it really that noticeable? I think if I had something with points on the outer edge I would just put a narrow border on it but if I didn't have enough fabric I would have to somehow not do that. Maybe cut the backing and batting to 1/8" bigger?[/quote]
If you have made your block correctly, you will have 1/4 from the point to the edge of the block. When you sew your binding on - say the front, you would be sewing 1/4 in, and that would be right at the points. If you sew on the back and bring to the front, you would just made the edge meet the points. |
