Mine are 2 1/4" strips and I use 1/4" seam.

I used to use 2 1/4 but now use 2" and it works really well for me. Just don't cut it any wider. When people have trouble with their binding I think it's because they cut it too wide.

thats interesting because I was taught to sew the binding to the front and hand stitch it down to the back.

quiltmom04 11-17-2010 07:29 AM

I use 2 1/8"

I sometimes like 3" with 1/2" left all around for a wider binding:>

It depends on you. Due to my arthritis I use 2 1/2" and machine sew front and the back.

I have found you cannot do the backing w/o sewing some border along the quilt top because the backing sewn directly to the front will not allow the points on the top to be as crisp when completed...must have a border of some width. I think you are correct Deb about needing a border

I use 2 and 1/2" works fine for me.

I like 2 1/4" binding. I think the 2 1/2" is just a bit too wide. i have cut 2" (only when I didn't have enough fabric) and it is always a struggle to machine sew. I usually end up hand sewing the binding, which I really don't like to do!
