Nice... I like that! What's the name of the quilt pattern? I'd love to get a hold of that pattern! Did you do the quilting yourself? Gorgeous quilting!

This is mine almost finished for DS - the black binding on black background is patience testing. It began as Summer in the Park and quickly took on a life of its own.

MaryAnnMc 08-07-2011 02:00 PM

Peckish, those quilts are stunners!!!!!!!!!

MaryAnnMc 08-07-2011 02:02 PM

Quilting Grandma, that is one beautiful quilt, too. Oh, my. I hadn't even considered black. My wanna-make list is getting mighty long!

Gerbie 08-07-2011 02:12 PM

Peckish - may I ask what the pattern is for the first quilt you showed a picture of? I have seen that pattern before, but just can't remember the name of it. I love your quilts by the way. Nice work! But then I love using black as a background fab., black makes all colors seem to pop.

Me too!! Sold this one though.

Tweety2911 08-07-2011 02:31 PM

I loved seeing everyone's quilts. I also like the dramatic affect achieved by using black.

Peckish, your quilts are beautiful! I especially love the first one, with that little multicolor strip at the edge between the black and the bright. Wow! I, too, would sure like to know what pattern this is. Thanks for posting your pics!

Thank you! The first one is a Drunkard's Path variation, and I actually wrote a tutorial for it. It is REALLY easy - there is no curved piecing. You can find the tutorial here:

Go to The Quilters Cache and they have a pattern called,Tilting 4 patch. Use 4 different materials for the 4 patch and then another for the two sides. I would use a black w/white background for the two sides.

Here's mine, it's next on my piecing list. I got the idea off a quilt I saw here on the board but I've never been able to find it again.

We have also collected a group of fabrics with bright colors on black background. We thought they would make a great quilt, but haven't really figured out how, so we're in the same shape you are. We were able to finish a solid black background quilt. If you get any ideas, would you mind PMing me? I hate that these fabrics are just sitting here.

There is a new fall leaf swap on the QB with black background. It is found here:

Yes here is the pattern, it's called Jewel Box - A Disappearing Nine Patch Diagonal Sew Quilt. You can find it at www.anythingbutboring.com by Janice Pope. Let me know if you can't find it. My dealer carries the pattern.

marys 08-08-2011 06:53 AM

I forgot to tell you that I added the 2 1/2" colored squares and also a 5" black border. I just thought it needed something else. I'm bad about having to add "my touch".

Ghostrider, absolutely love your optical illusion quilts just gorgeous. I was wondering if the first one is a pattern or something you created? Would you mind sharing the name of the pattern or the source it absolutely must go on my bucket list. Thanks
