Good Morning from Michigan. I am a new quilter and have been looking for a picture and or pattern to make a black and white with a little splash or red quilt. If anyone has a picture and or pattern you will be my new best friend and I will send you a Christmas card. Thanks...

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D

There are many Log Cabin quilt patterns that are as you described. A red center to the block, and maybe one of the black and white prints with a touch of red in them.

Do a search using the search feature above for black and white quilts.

Welcome to the quiltie neighborhood.

I have seen several of Eleanor Burns' Day and Night pattern made up, and they are STUNNING. I've heard all good things about how easy the pattern is too.

Hello and welcome from central Alabama. I have made a log cabin in B&W and one with the Depression Block from Quilter's Cache, and a strip quilt from MO Star Quilter's instructions.

Hi and welcome from Central Illinois!!

Go to the post by szyquilt. She has a Pinwhell Log Cabin Wedding quilt in black and white with the red centers. Very striking!

Hello Helen
Welcome from Westland, Michigan! There is a pattern called "Splash". It uses black, white prints with splashes of bright colors of fabrics throughout. I recently bought it from another user on this site. Try a search on the board here. I think someone else has already made and shared a pic on here. If you have questions concerning this pattern I will try to answer them. Just send me a PM.
DeeDee

Hi and welcome from Florida!

Try a disappearing 9 patch with these colours, it's easy and makes a beautiful quilt.
Welcome from Southern Ontario.

Hi and welcome from Alaska.

Tinabodina 10-22-2010 03:29 AM

I have been collecting material to make a black/white quilt. I have several patterns that have great colors in the middle and the outside is black.

Welcome from Wisconsin.

This is a queen sized quilt I made over this summer, using the "Paradigm Shift" pattern that was published in McCalls Sewing magazine, pg 54 of the May/June 2010 issue. The pattern is for a twin and I enlarged it to queen size.

I made it for my son's 36th birthday, but wanted to make something that would be appropriate for a single male adult, i.e. no flowers in the material. (I had already made one quilt top that ended up looking too feminine that I donated to our church quilting group!)

It was my daughter who suggested the colors because of he attended and is a big Ohio State fan. I think it turned out wonderfully, and today is his birthday, so he'll be getting it tonight!

It took me ALL SUMMER to do because I spend too much of my time on the golf course and in the car, traveling to play with our new grandson (who is 16 months already!). The blocks are pretty simple, but putting the pattern together is tough. There is so much to look at, you feel like you're going blind.

I love the way the bright blocks seem to hover over the pattern. And a paradigm shift mentality is how I think we have to think during the course of our lives, so I love everything about it!!

Welcome . . . from Michigan as well! I am also a new quilter, and loving every minute. I am devouring everything I can get my hands on regarding this subject. I spent the summer months attending quilt shows (the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild - 250 quilts), Dearborn, Farmington, and Detroit.

What can I say? PURE TALENT is out there, and I hope to be in that number one day!

I live just across the river from you, in Canada. Next September you have to check out the American Sewing Expo in Novi. I go with a bus group every year and love it. It isn't the biggest show but it's a good one. Carol

Most of the Tessellation patterns will make beautiful black and white quilts. Look under tessellation.

Well, guess what? I was at the Rock Financial Center this year for the Expo. I cannot believe how much money I spent. I had to chuckle at my friend who, as we were walking in from the parking lot, said "I'm not buying another piece of fabric!." Well, needless to say, we weren't in the Expo 10 minutes before she was buying a piece of fabric that caught her eye! I teased her about it!

It was a fun day. I hope we can keep in touch!

Janet

As a new quilter, I'd suggest a disappearing 9 patch. Look under search for DNP.
