Black and White
1 Attachment(s)
DH bought me a fat quarter package at shop hop. Its black and white. there are 15 fat quarters and now I have to find a pattern. I would like some inputbut please nothing with tiny pieces, These old eyes are not what they used to be. 2'x2' is about as small as I can work with. Here is a photo of what I have. there is one teal and one reddish piece that is a part of the package. Thanks I hope the photo is okay. I am still learning.

OH MY!!! They are beautiful. I love the bright colors they put with it.
I'm saving Black and white for a Turning 20 quilt - or a Yellow Brick Road quilt. I enjoy the larger pieces, but will watch to see what people say to make. |
I don't have a pattern in mind but just wanted to say that a "black and white quilt, with a touch of red" is on my 'to do' list. Those are some really cute fabrics.
I really like a D9P done in black & white with an accent colour. No small pieces to sew.
How about a French Braid quilt, using the brights in the little boxes down the center? That would be really pretty. If you've not seen a French Braid check it out on the internet. If it's something you want to try, PM me, I have a book I'll send you.

I, too, love black and white. I have a black, white, red and yellow quilt and I am currently doing a black & white star quilt.
Nice, nice fabrics! Anita |
I just bought a bunch of black, white and red fabrics to make a shower curtain in my new apt. I am trying to decide which pattern I want to go with: Yellow Brick Road 12" or a 6" D9P. I might just have to make a couple of blocks of both patterns to see which one I want to go with. Waiting for the other fabric to arrive today.
Love the colors and prints. When I purchase fabric I try to get at least a yard or 2 of black and white.
I'm thinking Rail Fence. easy and pretty and shows off fabrics.
I am currently making my daughter a sweatshirt jacket with black and white strips and just a few accent pieces of tangerine. I hope to finish it today! Whatever you decide to do, it will be gorgeous!
Thanks for the input. I like the yellow brick road idea. That may be the way that I go.

My first thought was a ""Turning Twenty" but the Turning Twenty Again has more pieces and really looks a lot more difficult. It's been a few years since I've made it, but the one I did was gorgeous (it was done in Chocolate -- the predecessor (sp?) of Double Chocolate, leaving all blues out.
This is going to be one pretty quilt!!!,
Hubby did good. Those are pretty together.
An easy block would be a log cabin (12"), with your red in the center. Love the selection of fabrics you have to work with!
I made a "10 minute quilt block" quilt using only black and white prints for the main fabric and using a red cotton satin that I had on hand for the centers. It turned out stunning. See Missouri Star Quilt Co. tutorial for the quilt tutorial.
What about some star patterns or even mariners stars. :D
I also think the French Braid would be pretty. Gorgeous fabrics.
Great fabrics! I love B&W, and I think Yellow Brick Road would be a good choice for the scale of your fabrics. Would love to see the final projects!
A small log cabin throw with red center.
There is an Eleanor Burns pattern, Hole In The Wall, that would be perfect for your fat quarters. Go to her site and look at the pattern.
I love black & white Our guild did a challenge with strips which were passed around. Since I was a beginner I did all my own strips as I did not care to ruin others quilts. I used coral or tangerine as a third color. I am now making a black/white with lime green. They all think next time I should join the passing so I guess I pass inspection. I am not a lover of red - or really many bright colors. Muted colors are better for me.
I'm seriously considering doing a B&W jigsaw puzzle quilt. Easy pattern that looks harder than it is. But I also like the other suggestions here. Anything with larger pieces would not only be easy but show off those great fabrics you have. Love the swans!
I agree. the center square on the 9 patch can be your accent.eg. red. Makes a great quilt and if you google disappearing nine patch there if a black and white with red. Beautiful.
Someone else mentioned a disappearing 9 patch. Your black and whites with a red in the center block (or aqua or both) would be perfect!
The fabrics are absolutely beautiful - they should make a great quilt.
What about the yellow brick road pattern?
I love your fabrics

I posted a black and white quilt I made recently. It's Jenny Doan's Double Slice Layer Cake pattern from MSQC's website. A super quick and easy pattern. Take a look at how it came out in black, white, red and see if it's something you might like:

P never even thought of a log cabin but it would do up nicely. I like the rail fence and it is so easy. I have seen the double slice layer cake. I like Jenny. I even watch her just to watch her. Sewbizgirl, your quilt is beautiful.
they are so pretty, I like black/white with the red.
I did a log cabin quilt and it was beautiful.
good luck, they are beautiful. I would also go with D9P with the red and blue in the middle block it would be gorgeous. Have fun.
I'm a big fan of "Turning Twenty".
What beautiful fabric. Looking forward to seeing a post of the quilt you make.

Eleanor Burns Hole in the Wall pattern. Requires 13 fat quarters

ArlaJo, your b&w fabrics are so nice, I would like to see them showcased in a 'brick wall' design. Each and every brick would be outlined in a narrow strip of black sashing, say, one inch width. Each brick would be about 4 x 8 inches. Brick by brick, just build your wall, with a tease of colored brick here and there. I've been collecting my b&w for a few years now, and I'll be watching to see your progress & completed quilt. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and did you ask your DH what he would like it to be?
The fabric is so pretty that you can keep the design very simple I think. Some 9-patch variation would be pretty, with the bright centers. Perhaps an Irish chain?
