Black or white
2 Attachment(s)
I’m going through older stash to get it used up and came across this collection I bought years ago, but I’m torn on the background fabric as the pattern does have a lot of background to it. I also have a very light grey, but felt the grey dulled the overall color of fabrics.

Black - the white washes it out. Cute fabrics.
I agree, the black provides more contrast which livens up the other fabrics.

If you are not in love with the black, i would suggest an inner border of the black and then the white. it should look lovely!
Depends on what the intended purpose of the quilt is. For adults, the black but it would make a sweet baby quilt with the white.
I am going with the white. Normally I would say the black, because I love black as a background fabric.
I like the black best.
I think I would like to see the grey option too. The black makes the other fabrics pop. The white would make a very delicate looking top. But a dark grey might just pull everything together.
I think the black is better. It gives a good contrast. If you don't like the black, maybe another dark color would work for you. ... navy blue?
Here are the greys

Don't like the greys at all. I like the black the best. White is also nice, and I think with a narrow black border before the white, as previously suggested, it would look just as good as the black.
I like the black
Another vote for a black inside border then white. I also like the white for a more delicate look (i.e. baby blanket)
Lovely fabrics! Look forward to see what you do with it all :) Christine |
first I'll admit to bias--I had that same fabric that I made table runners from--and I used a dark gray--so that is what I vote for!
BLack definitely does the most for those prints.
How about a yellow?
I like the black best. Makes the yellow pop.

Between the black and the white, I prefer the black. |
I like black. I use it a lot as I think it makes a dramatic look. But not if you are wanting an overall “soft” looking design.
Black is what I would use.

Black. It is such a terrific way to may colors and print POP!!
I like the black, it makes your colors "pop".
I like the black best because of the maximum contrast factor. However, the white is nice, but, the impact is less dramatic. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. Don't forget to show us what you choose.
I think either the gray (grunge would be my pick) or black would work and just depends on the overall look you want. The gray will be soft, the black dramatic. Personally, I would not use the white as it just seems a little flat to me.
I like the grays but darker, maybe more of a charcoal than the ones you have shown. See the gray background in the leafy fabric? I shy away from black as it tends to fade with time and becomes kind of an ugly brown. If it has polyester in it, that seems to hold the color better though. You have some beautiful fabric there!
Thanks for showing us the grey. I think Illinois is on the right track. I would take the fabrics to a store and try them against an even darker grey. But if you only want to shop your stash, I think the grunge grey or the black would be okay. I would definitely not use the white.
I like the black but you could try a dark charcoal grey too.
Love the black with those pretty fabrics!
I vote for the black~
What pattern are you suing for the quilt? Where will the background fabric be placed in the design?
In your first picture, the fourth fabric -gray with small dots print- might work too. While the black will be a great contrast, it might be harsh with the delicate yellow and white fabrics. Do you have enough of the gray to use for the background? Can you make a sample block first and then decide? |
Black makes the quilt pop.
Tallchick, you have the cutest kitty cat!
Love those fabrics! That background works but I think a very pale gray like the leaves of the flowers on the bottom fabric would be nice in a small pattern with white. (or matching the other fabric backgrounds.)
Oh, I see your grays and either would be nice or an in between. |
I think the black makes the other colors pop. I vote for black.
The black works for me.
Definitely black all colors seem to pop.
I liked the black until I saw the dark grey, I would do the dark grey with black borders!
I like the suggestion of black and white borders and definitely not the grays!
