my viking has a few different blanket stitches- they all have their place and are nice for their purpose... seems like my older brother's blanket stitch is a good stitch- shaped a little different than the vikings but nothing that would make it not usable for an applique.

Would using a different thread weight (maybe heavier) make the stitch look better? Are your needle and thread weight or type of thread compatible? Can make or break the stitch quality. Try a few variations and see.

Thanks for all of your input. I will try using a different weight of thread.

Ditto. When I got my older Janome I was just thrilled it HAD a blanket stitch. My 6600 has pretty much the same kind, I think. Never really thought about it.
