I have 28 Fq's (Hand dies) that I washed with a very nice 1 meter of Robert Kaufman red reindeer fabric, The hand dies bled all over my reindeers so now it is pepto pink. :( I even used a fermeldahide to wash with it.

How do I stop fabrics from bleeding? and how do I get the pepto pink colour out of my reindeer fabric?

Any one else have bad experiences or advice?

just have to pre-wash with color catchers and use a dye setter. something like synthope or retain. as for getting the pink out you might just have to soak in something like vinegar.

I did wash it all in Retayne but it did not work, the hand dyes are still bleeding.

What is a color catcher?

I thought vinegar sets fabric not gets stains out. :(

Vinegar will set the dye, don't know what will take the pink out.
Color catchers are in the laundry isle made by shout. Looks like a fabric softener sheet and collects the dye in the wash water.

Ouch, I am so sorry this happened to you. I don't really know how to take the pink out, but don't dry it, because I know heat will set the color.

I think that even with using Retayne or any such product, you still need to separate like colors, especially those that would bleed, like batiks.

Color catchers are a Shout product, I think. They look like a dryer sheet, but you put them in the wash and they absorb any dyes that get out in the water. If it bled that much, I'm not sure they would have trapped it all. I keep them on hand when for washing quilts when they are done.

I don't pre-wash, but I sort laundry into like colors and use Color Catchers with reds, purples, pinks, etc.

Many dyes are picky and depending on how the fabric was processed before it was dyed will be a factor. I would definitely not do anything with heat until then. This is the precise reason I prewash everything separately and check the water. If I suspect I have a bleeder I will do it again and recheck the water. It may take a little more effort but it saves on the frustration of seeing a lot of word ruined later.
