This block, how do you make it right?
I consider myself to be good at piecing, getting things on point, all that. Here's the thing.
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art24977.asp My problem is Florida. I've never tried to piece something that has twelve seams meeting in the center. Really? How do you do this with any accuracy? I can't leave Florida out because I'm doing all 5 states. I think I have to accept it won't be as pretty as the other blocks and just go on. Help? |
Since the pattern is there for paper piecing, that is what I would do. I might press the seams open in the middle section to reduce bulk.

Can't help you with your issue but am looking forward to seeing a post of your completed project.

Also, you can try removing the paper before joining the 4 sections to make the block. Normally I leave them in until joined, but in this case I would remove them first.

I agree with Tartan - press your center seams open when joining. You might also consider using steam when you press these seams also. If needed - smash with a mallet as well.

You could try not sewing all the way to the end of that center point in your seams. Leave the last 1/4" unsewn and then try and "spin" your seam allowances after your block is joined.
Pretty block! |
Everyone already gave all my tips, so just looking forward to seeing the results.

I decided I had given too much time to trying to make this look good and took it apart and turned all the blocks backwards with the large blue triangle pointing inward. It's wrong, but it sewed together beautifully and it's still really pretty. spending more than half a day trying to make one block look right just seems wrong to me. Thank you for all your suggestions.
