Blocks all done - OBW

1 Attachment(s)
So here are all my blocks ... what colour grouping should I do? Light to dark? Dark to light?

I grouped them together as much as I could

Thanks all

Stunning. I need to add OBW to my list of to do. I vote light to dark. Great job!

Teen 02-05-2018 04:46 PM

I'd play with layout on this one...take picture then rearrange again. You'll be inspired as you play. Fun stuff...

SusieQOH 02-05-2018 04:50 PM

I don't know but it sure is beautiful! Can't wait to see more.

Krisb 02-05-2018 04:50 PM

If you want it look like the light is above it, go dark on the bottom to light on the top. If you want it to look like a sunrise or sunset, put the dark on the top. I think it is all deciding the effect you want.

platyhiker 02-05-2018 04:55 PM

Personally, I like this type of OBW quilt best when each of the different "color" hexagons are spaced (roughly) evenly over the quilt. In particular, I like it when the nearly identical hexagons are not near each other. With spacing out the different "colors", I feel like the hexagons seem better defined; when a lot of similar hexagons are close together, I feel like they can sorta "mush" together.

cashs_mom 02-05-2018 06:09 PM

Oooh, I dont' know about layout, but I love your blocks. I really need to read my book and make a OBW quilt.

quiltingshorttimer 02-05-2018 09:31 PM

Saw a friend's recently where she had the light in the center and radiated out to the dark. Was really different and interesting.

ArtsyOne 02-06-2018 03:47 AM

I like a swoosh of light from one of the top corners down to the opposite side. Your blocks are lovely.

quilterpurpledog 02-06-2018 04:25 AM

All I can say for sure is that I really like your blocks and the color palette. I can't fathom how you would put them together. However, I will be anxious to see what you decide; so many options to choose from. I like the concept.

Here s the first layout ... I have extra blocks ... those are shown in the second picture ...

Not a fan of this layout, too blah!

Going to work on the next one!

Extra blocks are on the sides

I might try dark to light from the middle outward, like fireworks .

That's what I am working on right now ... there's just a lot of blocks LOL and it takes me at least 45 minutes to do a new layout ... and to top it off, I have my parrot sitting on my head trying to grab them!

By golly I think I have the layout! It's off kilter because I started in the top left and bottom right at the same time. I noticed that I had a lot of doubles, so I tried to mirror image them as much as possible

Thoughts?

I really like the light to dark, upper left light lower right dark. Any layout will be beautiful!!!

sewingsuz 02-06-2018 08:10 PM

I love your blocks. However you decide the layout it is going to be awesome.

jmoore 02-07-2018 03:25 AM

It’s going to be a stunning OBW but I did like your arrangement in post #15. Looks like a fun project.

chris_quilts 02-07-2018 06:06 AM

I like post #15 layout the best. Stunning blocks by the way.

MamaLinda 02-07-2018 07:10 AM

I too lean toward the #15 post. What a gorgeous quilt this will be.

TheMerkleFamily 02-07-2018 07:20 AM

How fun! So many beautiful possibilities - so far, I vote for #15! Can't wait to see this finished. Very, very pretty!

Boston1954 02-07-2018 08:38 AM

Have you thought about separating them from each other so that they stand out against the background?

jclinganrey 02-07-2018 08:49 AM

Beautiful job!

Watson58 02-07-2018 11:12 AM

Love the last photo!

What do you mean? The background is white felt - my design board ...

Jingle 02-07-2018 02:57 PM

I like the layout in the second picture.

I sort of liked the first photo where you were just getting your blocks together and all the colors were pretty much together (with a little tweaking). :-). The photo with the dark (I’ll call black blocks) on the edges, I did not care for. It did not seem to have any continuity to it. The diagonal setting was better but too symmetrical. The last photo, with the black at the top and bottom corners, is my preference. I would like to see some more of the black and (just a few of the lighter gray blocks) mixed in from the bottom corner going up the right edge toward the top corner. Not exactally in the middle, but not on the edge. Make sense? Just wondering how that would look? Ellen

So I did another layout ... I think I like this one better! I'll probably put more dark blue blocks in the middle ...

but here's my first attempt at this layout

Ohhh, I’m liking this. I would like the black blocks not to be exactally centered. It breaks the quilt in half. I like plan to add more of the dark blocks.

I like the bottom 1/3 of the quilt. Then when you add more dark blocks if you go to the right and fill in some more around the medium section and then go up toward the right. The top 1/3 of the dark is too straight and centered, again, cutting the quilt in half. I do like the little touch of dark in the top corne. I hope I am helping and not interfering here. I really like the fabric you have used here.

buddy'smom 02-08-2018 03:43 PM

Gonna be an awesome quilt when done. Any way you pick will be stunning.

Barb in Louisiana 02-08-2018 07:41 PM

I like Post #15 the best. The last photo in #29 is good, but the dark goes too straight up. I think making it curve opposite to the bottom half might be better. I do like the way you are moving all those lights around.

And yet, another layout!

SusieQOH 02-10-2018 07:58 PM

I really like the one above!!! They keep getting better and better! :)

MarionsQuilts 02-11-2018 06:43 AM

I think I'm going to switch the purple with the pink ... I was trying to go dark to light, and the pink looks dark, but turns out the purple is darker! Another picture to come soon!

Here it is ... dark to light (again) ... There are two pics, because I changed the center in one of them.

chris_quilts 02-11-2018 09:49 AM

Marion,

I like the 2nd picture best in post #35 best of all you've auditioned here.
