My daughter has a barn on her farm and I wanted her to paint a quilt pattern on the side of her barn. I would be there to help but don't think she is up to it. She has to many other things to do in the farm.

This is an excellent idea...will have to do one for our shed!

I was just thinking, maybe I will make two small ones for my double front doors instead of hanging flower wreaths on them.

In Tillamook Oregon, which is a coastal town, and also the home of Tillamook creamery and ice cream, there are many barns and they have a driving tour for you to go look at all the barns and then in town there are shops that are sporting quilt designs on the end of their buildings. Really a neat place to go and just walk around . Jan

Been watching her show about the barn quilts. She always gives a history on them, real interesting, and some of the blocks are really nice.

Hi Retired, I am from Charles City ,Iowa area. And Yes, the quilt guilds do most of the quilts on barns. Not all, but lots of them In Floyd , Chickasaw, and Fayeitte Countys there are hundreds of barns with QBs. Our guild recieved a grant from the state 3 years ago. That grant paid for all the materials to make and paint them. Then the owners of the Barns help with the instalation of them on the barns. There are rules in order to be able to have them. 1-must be on a hard surface road. 2- must be visible from the road without pearsons trsspassing on private prop..and several others that don't come to mind. But yes, it stated with quilt guilds.

When we were in Pennsylvania, they said the Dutch (Deutch) used them to protect the barns- they were hexes.

I did have one on my barn but it faded somewhat so I did a "shoe fly" and put it on my machine shed. Mine is smaller tho. There are a lot of them in Bath County and Menifee County, Ky.
