Bonnie Hunter's Next MQ

Anyone know when Bonnie Hunter releases the colors for her next winter MQ? I remember it being in October last year, but I don't remember if it was early or later in the month. I loved the last MQ and really don't want to miss this year's. I don't follow her blog or FB page so I guess I'm relaying on the QB for the announcement.

bjchad 10-09-2017 08:11 AM

It's normally near the end of October but she will be in China until the 30th (I believe) so may not get them out until a couple of days into november

Tartan 10-09-2017 09:18 AM

On last Quiltcam, she said the end of October and this MQ is going to be spectacular.

What is MQ?

Irishrose2 10-09-2017 10:23 AM

Mystery Quilt = MQ

Feathers-N-Fur 10-09-2017 10:23 AM

Mystery Quilt
Bonnie Hunter does one each year starting on Black Friday and wrapping up usually around New Years.

Sync 10-09-2017 10:23 AM

rvsfan, MQ stands for Mystery Quilt. Every year Bonnie Hunter does a mystery quilt through her blog. http://quiltville.blogspot.com/ In October she will let us know what colors she will be using in this mystery. Then the day after Thanksgiving she will start with her weekly clues. This goes on until the revel sometime in Dec.

quilts4charity 10-09-2017 11:39 AM

Oh yes, I'm already so excited, love her mysteries!!! I did 2 last year, won't do that again...LOL

Macybaby 10-09-2017 12:14 PM

Can't believe it's almost that time of the year again!

joe'smom 10-09-2017 01:49 PM

Does anyone know what places Bonnie visited this year, that might have served as inspiration for this year's mystery?

Every year I say I won't buy fabric for the mystery, and every year I buy fabric for the mystery, LOL.

pewa88 10-09-2017 02:33 PM

She said she would post colors after she gets back from China.

peaceandjoy 10-09-2017 02:56 PM

Super excited for this year's mystery! I recently retired so am really, really hoping to keep up this time around instead of finishing months later.

For anyone who is unsure of their ability to do one of BH's mysteries: Yes, there are a LOT of pieces - I don't think any of them has under 4,000. But her directions are really detailed and she includes many photos. Don't have time to do it all? Print or save the directions (they will be taken down a month or so after the mystery ends) and do a few units each week as posted to be sure you understand that week's process. There will be lots of folks doing the mystery, so there will be a lot people you can lean on for help if you need clarification.

There are threads here - in challenge section , I think, of some of her previous mysteries, as well as quite a few pictures. They will give you an idea as to both Bonnie's mysteries and the support that is at your fingertips. My avatar is one of her past mysteries. The colors suggested for this one ("Easy Street") were purple, turquoise and lime green, I think - but those colors are not in my box! And neutrals, lots of neutrals! Love her idea of neutrals - not just white or white on white, cream, etc., but a range that is anything from stark white to just lighter than a lunch bag, with lots of print on them. If you check Pinterest, look for Quiltville quilts.

soccertxi 10-09-2017 03:17 PM

every summer, I say I won't join in...and every October I make a lovely mess stash diving for colors! i am planning on getting my En Provence ready to be Leaders and Enders for this yrs mystery. I still have Celtic Solstice to quilt!

She might be a bit later this yr on colors as she will have to get her hours sorted after her China trip.

HAHA!!! Me too!! I'm a sucker for her mystery designs - they make me challenge mysef! :D

costumegirl 10-09-2017 03:22 PM

Peaceandjoy - I really like your Easy Street colors! Could you show us a larger pic please :)

NZquilter 10-09-2017 06:50 PM

This year I'm hoping to use my stash, even if I need to change the color way. Last year I was able to keep up with all the clues, but I'm still quilting it! My goal is to finish it this week.

quiltingshorttimer 10-09-2017 07:57 PM

i've only done Celtic Solstice, but would encourage others who haven't done one to give it a whirl--her quilts really do challenge you to improve your piecing skills and she does an excellent job of teaching how to do that.

Sync 10-09-2017 08:29 PM

My very first Bonnie Hunter mystery was Allietare. Loved doing the mystery quilt and can't wait for this year to start.

Gagigi 10-10-2017 02:13 AM

Can’t wait! I have made the last 3 MQ’s. Love the piecing not so much the quilting. I have learn so much from Bonnie.

Battle Axe 10-10-2017 02:20 AM

I've got En Provence pieced but not quilted. It's a good thing that she doesn't require us to finish before starting the next one. I bought the pattern to Alletaire, but just the other day I found my favorite colors, green and purple, made up in Allietaire on Pinterest.

It's great fun to do the MQ and then get on here and see what others have done. QB-ers are a great inspiration to do a better job of cutting and piecing. Mine just don't look that good compared to all of you!!

Battle Axe 10-10-2017 02:29 AM

If you get on facebook, and then type in Bonnie Hunter blog, you get a story about 52 deaf quilters at a retreat. Seven of them made En Provence and there is a picture of 5 of those with their rendition of the pattern.

jmoore 10-10-2017 03:13 AM

I’m sure something will pop up here on the QB with news of Bonnie’s commencement of this year’s Mystery...I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes open for it. I passed on last year’s En Provence because I needed to finish up some UFO’s but I can participate in this year’s project in good conscience. : )

illinois 10-10-2017 03:16 AM

How does a person get started with her MQ? Is it on her blog/Facebook/here? Would love to follow along.

joe'smom 10-10-2017 06:05 AM

The years that I've done the mystery, QB member Podunk Princess has started a thread for QBers to do the mystery together (in the QuiltingBoard Challenges and Contests section). You can also follow the progress on Bonnie Hunter's Facebook page Quiltville's Open Studio. Bonnie will post the intro to the mystery and all of the clues on her blog. The intro has usually appeared at the end of October, and the first clue comes on Black Friday, and on each Friday after that until around New Year's Day.

Kassaundra 10-10-2017 06:58 AM

I've made the past 2 BH mysteries, was planning on sitting this one out, but then you guys say she has been in China, so there is a possibility this one will be inspired by the orient

joe'smom 10-10-2017 08:31 AM

Kassaundra, I think it will be next year's mystery that is China-inspired. Bonnie will be in China at the end of October, and I recall back in June or so that Bonnie mentioned she had finalized this year's mystery design. I didn't keep track of where she traveled this year.

Thank you so much for this info. I have never done a mystery quilt and will plan to check out Bonnie's this year.

You will love it:) Last year was my first time and I've been waiting all year for the next one! Each Friday felt like a Christmas for me as I waited for the clues.

Sync 10-10-2017 10:43 AM

jmoore, Allietare was my first Bonnie Hunter mystery and I passed on last year's mystery because I was still working on Allietare. lol ...... but now I'm ready to go again this year.

To be honest Bonnie's mystery quilts always intimidated me ....... all those small pieces ..... but I have overcome my fear by completing Allietare.

Deb, I don't want to take over this thread, so here is a link (I hope!) to the one where I posted it. I see that was in September of 2013, so was only 9 months late finishing! That included having it quilted and bound, too, though, so really, not too bad. https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...t-t229833.html

I,ve done the last 9 mystery quilts of Bonnies and have never been disappointed in any of them. Found her site when I started quilting and have followed her ever since. Currently doing up some of her sugar bowl blocks and they are addicting.

You could search for Bonnie Hunter or quiltville.com. I signed up to get her emails & get the directions that way. One of her mysteries is on my to do list.

I've looked around her site but don't find how to sign up for the emails. Help, please.

Sync, I‘m glad you finished Allietare and that it helped your confidence...yes, there are a lot of small pieces but luckily the clues are posted weekly so you don’t get overwhelmed. The end result of her mysteries is worth it. Can’t wait to see the color cards for this year’s mystery.

AlvaStitcher 10-11-2017 04:41 AM

I am looking forward to the MQ as well. I have done the last two (or is it three?) but none are quilted yet. I seem to collect tops more than quilts! Her quilts do challenge you but the instructions are well written. I print out each week's post so they are saved if I ever want to make another one.

Click on the link ctrysass2012 provided, then choose 'BLOG' at the top of the page. You'll then be on the blog page, and will see the picture of Bonnie's En Provence quilt, and below that are a bunch of gray tabs. Just below the gray tabs is the little box for submitting your email address to receive the blog posts as emails.

They are a challange but I also love small pieces and I love how she uses so many differnt fabrics! I was thoroughly impressed with her detailed instructions. I regret not printing each clue as it came out last year. I still have them as a pdf on my iPod, but my printer doesn't "recognize" the iPod. This year I'm going to print them for future.

D.Henson 10-11-2017 08:11 AM

I'm going to do Bonnie's MQ again this is. Allietaire was my first one. It's not finished yet, but plan on finishing it up soon. I passed on En Provence but I did print the clues and instructions. That quilt is beautiful!! I sure hope to make that someday.

I believe she mentioned a couple of weeks ago that she loaded it on the longarm to be quilted.
