Which border arrangement?

I am having a heck of a time choosing borders on this quilt. I just cut off a 6" brown border that was not working, and now I just don't know, nothing seems right. Suggestions? The pics are from my phone, they are a dark and medium blue, not sure how they are showing.

quiltingcandy 05-25-2016 07:36 PM

I like the second set best.

BluegrassGurl 05-25-2016 07:55 PM

I really like the first option. The dark, smaller border frames it nicely.

daisydawg 05-25-2016 08:31 PM

I really like the first one the best.

marilynr 05-25-2016 08:59 PM

I prefer the first one.

Gay 05-25-2016 09:17 PM

The first one for me too, going to be beautiful. Love your fabrics, were they a fat-quarter pack? what name please

DOTTYMO 05-25-2016 09:26 PM

I prefer the first combo narrow dark followed by a wider light.what colour will the binding be?

Vicki1212 05-26-2016 12:46 AM

I prefer the first one too. The darker fabric frames the squares beautifully. In the second one, the medium fabric is too similar to the squares and seems to suck the life out of them. :) Beautiful quilt top!

I agree with this.

I like the first pic with the darker inner border. Very pretty quilt!

tapper 05-26-2016 02:19 AM

Hi.
I prefer the dark blue.

QuiltingHaven 05-26-2016 02:22 AM

The first one. The small border accents it and the the lighter highlights the colors in the quilt.

I, too, prefer pic #1. I also agree that the narrow, dark inner border frames your blocks nicely and the wider outer border ties everything together.

redstilettos 05-26-2016 03:45 AM

this is beautiful either way, but love how the first one makes it pop.

ManiacQuilter2 05-26-2016 03:45 AM

I prefer the first one. Usually I like the outside border to be darker but this has sort of a shabby chic look to it so I like the darker used as a narrow inside accent border. Very pretty fabrics!

DottyMo - I am thinking I would bind in the same darker color as the inner boarder. Thought I am not sure if I should put in that extra "stop". Wondering if I should bind in the same color as the outer border (the lighter color?).

Thank you Gay! Actually, the fabrics are a mish-mash between multiple stores (2 LQS, the blue paisley was from Joann's, and a couple of colors were from Hobby Lobby). I'm hoping it keeps growing on me. I didn't start out thinking this would be more blue, but I didn't have a clear picture at the beginning of what I wanted, and it just sort of morphed, as I pulled certain fabrics, added others, adjusted the pattern. I usually prefer to go in darker color ways (greens, reds, golds/yellows).

I totally agree with this one, unless you want to make it shabby chic. In that case, I would use the lighter blue as the stop border, then the other blue paisley or white (background) as the final larger border.

Love the first picture. Beautiful quilt!

Jcarpentier 05-26-2016 05:03 AM

I like the darker one. Nice quilt!

tessagin 05-26-2016 05:08 AM

I agree. Love the darkest against

First glance, I liked the second one but after looking at it awhile I like the first one.

btiny36 05-26-2016 05:18 AM

I like the first options...Small dark border then the light border and I would bind it with the dark fabric used in the first border.....

Jordan 05-26-2016 07:05 AM

I really like the first one. The second one seems too dark in my opinion. What one do you like?

I'm leaning toward the first one. But after originally using a fabric for the outer border that was all wrong (and cutting it off last night) - I felt gun shy to pick again! This color pathway it outside of what I usually do, so really struggling with it.

I think I would the use the darker color for the binding.

Next I have to choose backing!

Jingle 05-26-2016 07:23 AM

I like the first border the best.

Kitsie 05-26-2016 07:27 AM

First one!

MadQuilter 05-26-2016 08:08 AM

The first one is very pretty and balances out the center. The second one is a bit overpowering imo.

ontheriver 05-26-2016 12:11 PM

I like the first one too.

I vote for the first one with a narrow dark border inside the wide lighter one.

joe'smom 05-26-2016 02:12 PM

I think the second one is lovely. I think the dark border in the first photo takes too much attention from the quilt interior (it's hard to drag your eye away from it), but in the second photo, the interior of the quilt really stands out.

Very tough choice to make as they both look great to me. Glad you have to make that decision! I do love both those border fabrics and the colors in the quilt in general. Is that a D9P? What a great way to put it together!

sewbizgirl 05-26-2016 04:21 PM

The FIRST! It's lovely and really works.

cashs_mom 05-26-2016 05:36 PM

I like the first one best.

Thank you! :). It started as a Dp9 with a few other fabrics. I found it too busy, so swapped out a few of my fabrics, decided to use the lightest colors outside of the center, and sort of morphed my layout into the Falling Charms pattern (from Missouri Star Quilt Co).

Pinkiris 05-26-2016 08:47 PM

I like the first option also. The light outer border echoes the softness of the quilt body.

grammyjladr 05-27-2016 02:21 AM

I agree with most. The first combo is really pretty and the narrow dark border makes it pop!

paoberle 05-27-2016 02:56 AM

The first one.

copycat 05-27-2016 02:59 AM

I like the first choice. A dark blue binding would look nice, too. Pretty quilt!
