Good girl BCQLaur ... that's what helps keep the economy going....... and builds our stashes!! :)
I haven't got back to my BCS yet ... but soon!
Re the Clues ... each store started the Mystery on different dates, so that's why we're all at different stages.
I think my LQS got signed up and started earlier than most.

Of course, why not invite SatinMoon to join on here with us?
There's nothing "closed" about this at all!!

P.S. ... now that you've got this clue nabbed, how about some pictures? I'm totally intrigued with your fabric and how it's going to turn out!

BC_QuilterLaur 02-07-2012 12:04 PM

I am going to wait until I get clue #4 then get it done because the ones satin moon posted are interesting.
Thanks for the encouragement

QuiltE 02-07-2012 12:08 PM

BCQLaur ... Can you give us a link to her blog, please? and thanks!

Sheila_H 02-07-2012 12:10 PM

I've got too many stokes in the fire! Dear lord the work load I signed up for habit of mine, oh that's pretty I want to do it, right at the end of the month I've got to start another BOM club (Ginger Rose), I go to my Bernina Academy once a month and have lots of homework for that, since they think I've got lots of time to sew, lol too much time on here. I'm trying to catch up on the B9P and now I just started the Star of Bethlehem last night. Promised DH I wouldn't sign up for anymore classes (didn't tell him last night I signed up for the shop owner's Tote class in April)

QuiltE 02-07-2012 12:15 PM

Not to worry SheilaH ... you're already signed up for the April class! ... so you did tell your DH the truth! :)
Being that it's the LQS owner's class, does that mean that tote will be something bright and beautiful. This Spring/Summer when there's a good one day class (or two back to back days) ... let me know and I just might come and join you!

Pleeeeeeeeeeeease show us your B9P at whatever stage it's at?
That pattern keeps calling to me ... and I keep saying no no no ... no more new starts til I get some old ones finished up. Wonder how long I'll be successful?

Oh how impressed I was with your LQS!!!

Thanks! Looks like she's probably closer to me ... than you! :)
She's at the same stage as I am ... though I do have one more clue I haven't done yet!

BC_QuilterLaur 02-07-2012 07:35 PM

She has finished the 4th clue it looks like. Have you?
I was intrigued by the five long strips. She has a tip about that.
I do not know if you are a long time quilter but I am sure you are more experienced then I.
Do you have any tips for those long strips or do you concur with hers?

Oh I guess I haven't done the 4th yet ... I haven't done any joining of the long strips. I saw the QSTs and knew I had done those.

Yes, her suggestion to sew from opposite ends is a good one. If you sew all from the same end, the strip set can tend get a curl in it. So if you go opposite ways at it, then it will help to keep them all nice and straight!

Clue #4 completed ... here's all the different pieces that I now have
(including those from the previous Clues)
Note: the layout is slightly different depending on which colourway you are using

Something Extra .... When I did the snowball corners, instead of cutting off the pieces, I did the double stitching and now have 30 small HSTs already made. No plans as of yet!!

Clue #5 is ready and waiting for me, once I get to the LQS to pick it up!

frarose 02-09-2012 09:11 PM

I haven't heard of this before either but the previous one was really nice.

FraRose ... it started at our LQS the end of October. Some of the others didn't get their first clue til January. You could check with your LQS and see if they are doing it. And join in with us!

BC_QuilterLaur 02-10-2012 03:55 PM

QuiltE
I love seeing your stuff and you display it so nicely. I still do not have this clue yet. Soo.... I just called the LSQ and they said the clue came in 5 min ago. Now it will depend if I can leave work a little early becuase they close at 5 and are a good 7-10min away from my work.
others I think we would all like to see peoples prgress every now and again. It would be great if you could get a snap of the work in progress. I really encourage this because I hope the we can each see everyone's quilt tops when they are completed and better yet the whole thing later when the project is completd right through to binding!!!! Will this 4th clue mean we are 1/2 way there?
anticipating mine and others projects

QuiltE 02-10-2012 04:34 PM

Hi BCQLaur ... I picked up Clue #5 today and am hoping to get it done this weekend. As I mentioned before, we all had different starting dates. I kind of feel like the earlybirds, are ruining the Mystery for those who started later.

I agree, it's nice to see everyone's WIP for this project. With the different fabrics, it's fun to see how they look so different.

All the other BCS'ers ... I do hope that you will come on back and post as you complete each Clue!

I'm pleased with how mine is looking with what I've done so far. I went into this with a little confidence, in knowing that I really liked the $10 Challenge Quilt I did a few years ago, from a pattern by the same designer.

YukonViv 02-10-2012 08:38 PM

Ok, I didn't accomplish my goal, I didn't get all those quarter square triangles (that's what they are called right?). Other then that I'm good!

Not much for me to show that's different as I'm using the seaside romance colour theme.

Tomorrow I get the next clue and I swear I will have it all down for the next month. Yep...I will.

Oh but please show us .... I like seeing how the different colorways and fabrics go together!
Are you doing the Quaintly Queen or Lazy Lap,
YukonViv?
I'm just doing the Lazy Lap, so not near the amount of sewing that the QQ people have to do.

BC_QuilterLaur 02-10-2012 09:38 PM

Choices

H
Yukon Viv"
"I'm using the seaside romance colour theme"

BCQLaur ... Hope this helps you ... at the bottom of the box you are now reading, there are two options, "Reply" or "Reply with Quote". The first just lets you type ... the second, puts the message you are replying about into your message as the quotation.

I got Clue #5 done today ... will post the pic tomorrow.

BC_QuilterLaur 02-13-2012 08:23 PM

Hi all
Well I finally got my clue #4
I could not get it on Fri. or Sat as my life's busyness just did not allow it. Picked it up today after work and now Dinner over, dishes done (for the most part) and hy DH watching hockey! I am off to the basement to sew.
Can't wait to see what my colours will do with this new turn. If you are at all ablr to post your progress I would love it!

Nite

QuiltE 02-13-2012 09:58 PM

I'll look forward to seeing yours BCQLaur ... yours is such an interesting fabric!

Where are all the other BCS'ers ... We're looking for you and want you to come on back! Pleeeeeeeeease!!!!

BC_QuilterLaur 02-18-2012 05:24 PM

mistake MISTAKE MIStakE!!!!!!!!!

Ohhhhhhhh
:oI am working on #4 and I have sewn the second side on to the rectangle at the completely wrong angle!
AND I was trying to be like QuiltE and be practical and save the corners so I have double seamed all 30 pcs. So instead of what I think you might term a snow ball I have parallelograms. Thank goodness I have only cut 1. So now the thoughts in my head. Keep it and see how it changes the BCS mystery or seam rip them all out Or just say 'give' and do no more wait for the reveal and make my decision then..

Boo Hooo
:(:(:(:(

QuiltE 02-18-2012 05:46 PM

Oh poor you BCQLaur ... I know it's hard to decide whether to fix it up now or later. I'd be worried if I left it for later that it'd just end up joining the UFOs for ever and ever. Yes, it's a little extra time and work now ... though I'm sure you'll be glad you did it, once you get it done! Cheer Up, BCQL ... I feel for you!

Hi
So I did quit ...

for a while...
then I decided to work on the first quilt top that i made over a year ago and never finished because there was always something more pressing.
I sandwiched it, trimmed it up and cut the binding.
I hand sewed it . This took a couple of weeks as I work full time. (an care for my MIL who has sufferd a stroke)
I remained abit upset and finally took my seam ripper in hand and started taking things apart.
so I now have the next two clues so i have finally!!! completed one step. I will post a pic
as you can see the feather fabric is directional
the one you see here is symmetrical but some aren't so i will have to decide what to do sooner then later.

QuiltE 03-15-2012 06:46 PM

Hi BCQLaur ... I love the look of what you have shown there. That fabric is phenomenal and I love seeing it at each step.

I picked up Clue #6 the other day ... won't be doing it til my FWS top is all together. And it is coming along pretty good, so soon I'll be back to BCS Mystery!

BTW ... are you going to show us pics of your now finished up PhD? Sure would be nice to see it! :)
And am going to be watching for your next steps in the BCS!

And where are all the other BCS'ers???? :)
Come back .. come back, wherever you are!!!
Please!!!!!!!!!

YukonViv 03-16-2012 10:20 AM

hi all!!!!

Well, I missed the last meeting on Saturday so stopped by the quilt shop to pick up my clue this week. LOL, the QS owner knows me so well!!! She asked if I was keeping up, I said sort of...she said I knew it! She's been waiting for that as she was surprised that I signed up for the mystery quilt.

The MQ is being hosted by one of the instructors/employees of the shop, that's who convinced me to try it. And it's ok...but my style is more random, and not really doing what everyone else is doing.

In hindsight, it may be more exciting if like some of you I picked my own fabrics. My QS owner tells me I'm very particular about my fabrics LOL...and no that's a good thing really. I'm off the wall and she loves it b/c colours and patterns don't scare me.

So it could be that I'm working (not working) on something that really isn't my type fabric. I did go into it thinking it would be a great gift at Christmas for someone in my family, again something I don't usually do. I love to make quilts and projects without a purpose and when I'm done they always end up having a perfect home to go to.

So it's time to buck up and deal with my issues and just do it. I'm off work today as I went home with a migraine yesterday...my eyes are still a tiny bit sore and my neck hurts but I'm getting ansty sitting here on the couch.

YukonViv 03-16-2012 10:23 AM

BC_QuilterLaur, I love those fabrics, the feathers just add a bit of whimsy, good for you!

YukonViv 03-16-2012 10:24 AM

Oh QuiltE you are doing so well!!!!! I think you get a gold star for keeping up LOL. Your blocks are going to be very soft and soothing I think...I can't wait to see how the darker green is going to be incorporated in there.

*blush* Thank you
YKViv! :)

I'm like you though ... I tend to do my own thing and make what I want, with what I want and when I want!!! ....... with no predetermined notions as to what will happen to it after it's finished. That way the only pressure I have is whatever I cause myself and sometimes that can be too much! :) I sure can't blame anyone else for it. I too, let my quilts "talk" to me, and often as I work along, I figure out who it is for ... and with that, sometimes I make changes to personalize it a little. more.

For this mystery, I was determined to make it from my stash ... while I have a huge stash, I found that I could not come up with a 3-fabric combo that'd work. Had lots of combos with enough for 2 of the fabrics, but none where there was enough of all three, so ended up buying the purple ... despite all the many purples I had! :) I figured if it was going to be a Mystery I might as well make it a total risk ... rather than going with the "safe" fabrics. Besides, I'm "cheap"!!!! :)

As I work with it, I am finding the quilt to be soft and soothing, as you suggested ... and with just enough spark and sparkle with that purple. Maybe I am getting to like it too much, and will keep it?

Another difference in your mystery ... our LQS is not having any classes or GTGs during the process. So I have no clue what fabrics the others are using ... and the only people that I have discovered who are doing it, are because they happened to have been at the LQS when I pick up the next Clue. We get a phone call or email to say it's ready, and then just drop by when we wish. There is supposed to be a final reveal GTG after people have a chance to finish the quilts up.

Take care of that migraine ... and don't push yourself to far and hard too soon .... or yikes! It'll be back with full vengeance. Do take care!!! :)

Thankyou Yukon Viv
I decided the pheasant feathers and the stone inspired for my husband. I bought the fabric then did not know what I would make with it. Then when this mystery opportunity came up I hoped the pattern would work out. My bigger concern is the directional feature of the feathers as I did not notice it until later and so many pieces were sewn on in random order. So now I am living with it.

Now that I know what a PhD is I willl try to post my finished project. Funny thing is that my husband gave me a gift certificate for Valentines some years back and that is what started me in quilting so I made the first one for him. I picked out the fabric with him in mind so you will see some similarities on the colour palette (hmm I do not know how to spell that)

So when I look at it the yellow does not jump out quite so strongly as it does in this pic

OOOOOHhhh BCQLaur .... Love it!!! Great mix of batiks. Autumn colours are my favourites ... and so why I'm jumping with excitement to see your DH's and why I want to see more of your feathers.

About the directions of your feathers ... You don't know which way the block is going to end up when its all assembled, so I don't think I'd fret too much about them.

One of my first quilts was a slash the stash similar to yours ... we did a lot more cuts and kept them sstraight and square. I think we started with 14 or 16 inch blocks? Here's a pic ....

Hi YukonViv
did I miss something there? I thought there were three colours for this quilt and that QuiltE had them all sewn in. I guess I thought the drk grn background was to have contrast when she was showing us her progress.

QuiltE
Are you planning on adding the dark green a little later as things go on? Is it perhaps your backing?

Wow I love to see other work. This is a great quilt! It must have been one of the hooks that got you deeper into quilting. Did you keep it? what size is it. Mine is a lap.
Have a great day, gotta get off to work.
