did I miss something there? I thought there were three colours for this quilt and that QuiltE had them all sewn in. I guess I thought the drk grn background was to have contrast when she was showing us her progress.

QuiltE Are you planning on adding the dark green a little later as things go on? Is it perhaps your backing?

You got it BCQLaur ... it was just what was up on the board at the time ... and I was too lazy to take it down and use the "correct" one! I guess it could work with the mix, though I think it may be the wrong shade? tone? (whatever the right word is?) for the light green (different green family?). I am making the Lazy Lap ... might expand it to be a bigger one ..... will only see after we get thru all the clues and I see what I could do.

Have a great day, gotta get off to work.

Oh yes, I still have it ... it's on a quilt rack ewith some other quilts and I might give it a way sometime. It's nice, but just doesn't have much pizazz or work to it, so I'm not that fond of it ... even though I love the fabrics/colours!

Hi
So this is the second week in a row with no cutting. I seem to have a lot of fabric left and a fair amount of space taken up by the pieces we have already made. here are some of the peices just laid a round. I tried to get some kind of idea of what might come next but I am either not good at it or have not had enough experience with a variety of layouts.

It's going to be beautiful BCLaur .... The Clue that is waiting for me to do, will answer much of your question!! :)
That's one thing that I have felt a bit awkward about ... I'm at least one clue ahead of everyone, so it kind of takes away from the surprise when I post.

Does this bring you up to date with your Clues? When will you get your next one?

About extra fabric ... I have no idea as to whether I have a little or lot left .... I didn't start with the required amounts! The two from my stash were a lot longer than necessary, and the purple I had to buy, I bought extra.

Hi
Yes it does bring me up to date. I was given installment 5 (previous pics) and installment 6 (these pics)at the same time. So the bifirst pic which I am calling my feather box and the second pic which features what I am calling my inukshuk stars (because of the stonehedge fabric) and the four borders were the last clue I have. I havenot seen those of yours. Could you post a picture. Does your next clue include some cutting?

I haven't done mine yet ... so I think you are now ahead of me! :)
I want to get some PC blocks caught up before I do the BCS, being that I still have another 2 or 3 weeks til the next Clue, so have some time to spare.

Maybe this weekend? I feel like I am in withdrawl, as I haven't sewn for a few days now!!! :( and won't tomorrow either! :(

Then watchout Friday night and the weekend!!!!!!!! :)

Buttttttttt I still have some finishing up on my FWS, so if I don't get it done first ..... I won't be able to see any of the rest of these dreams fulfilled!

BC_QuilterLaur 03-21-2012 06:13 PM

You definately have time as this one only has sewing and ironing. It sounds like you have a lot of committments in terms of your quilting. I hope this is how you like to quilt. I too am itching to be at the sewing machine but tonight am doing some preliminary planning for a quilt for my daughter. Happy night of whatever you are up to tonight!

QuiltE 03-21-2012 06:20 PM

I've just had too much going on in my life ... that WORK thing gets in the way of the FUN part of living!!! :)

My understanding is that the cutting was all done upfront .... at least I think so!
I must say that the pattern has been very well put together ... the Clue's well explained and you're not left wondering, now what does she mean here? Love the one Clue where she even said ... yes, that's what I mean in the cartoon cloud thingy!!!

Have you done any of her other patterns? I did Gatherings before as a $10 Challenge thru the LQS, so that's what sold me that I'd not feel I was taking a total risk!! And so far I am quite happy with this one!!

YukonViv 04-07-2012 11:30 PM

Oh wow I'm so loving those feathers.

Ok, I'm seriously working on this, I am on installment 4. I just have to sew together the 5 strips to be subcut.

I have installment #5 too and I think I can manage this tomorrow. I certainly hope so as we get installment #6 next Saturday!

edited to add:

I should have mentioned, I'm really under the gun now to get caught up. Apparently my friend at the quilt shop mentioned to a couple of mutual friends that I was way behind...and they told a couple of friends, etc. Now I can't even fake it on Saturday LOL...I have to bring in my homework.

QuiltE 04-08-2012 04:49 AM

Yeaaaaaaaa for you YukonV!!!
It's funny how the rumour mill can push us into action .... and good for you for getting back at it, and having next Saturday as a goal.

I vowed all along, to not pick up my next Clue until the previous one was done. That's helped to keep me on track, at least once a month. So sometimes I did my sewing, picked up my Clue the next day, and while everything was out, did the new one. It seemed like I only sewed every two months!!!!! So I haven't done my last Clue, and the next one should come very soon .... sidetracked a little as I got my FWS finished and off to the LAQ. Then got behind on the weekly PC block pairs, and have been determined to get caught back up there, while we are on Spring Break ... two more blocks to go, and then I'll be back to BCS mode!!!!

So it looks like we might be posting our photos pretty much together!! See you again, soon!!!

Ok, is everyone sitting down?

Are you ready?

Ok, I have to just spit it out, sort of like pulling off a bandaid...

(deep breath)

I'm ALL CAUGHT UP!!!!

I am ready to pick up Installment #6 next Saturday...WAHOO!!!

And I've attached a photo (at least I think I have, first time doing it since the switchover).

QuiltE 04-08-2012 08:05 PM

WTG YukonViv ... You did it!!! ..... got caught up AND got the pic posted!
It's got a nice soft look to it ... and I really like it.
I hope you are pleased with it too!

1/2 PC block to go ... and then I can catch up on my BCS!

QuiltE 04-12-2012 08:49 AM

Hello All ... Here's a copy of the email I received from my LQS that I wanted to alert everyone about ... I'm thinking it's nothing too critical, and perhaps something that those doing the Quaintly Queen figured out. While i"m doing the Lazy Lap, I'm asking for the info, in case I should make it again ... or expand my LL into a QQ.

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ...........
Hi Mystery Quilters
The next installment for the Border Creek Station Mystery Quilt is now ready for pick up. I also have been notified that the queen size instructions in #5 & #7 instructions have errors in them. I can email or print you a copy of the corrections if you require them. Please email or call to let me know that you would like them to pick up or email.
We are also starting a waiting list of names for the next mystery to start in the Fall 2012. This mystery will be a very special one as it will be the 10th anniversary. It will be called "Quilters Celebration" Mystery Quilt.

For me, the really good news is that there's a new BCS Mystery on the horizon!!! Yessssssss!!

YukonViv 04-12-2012 12:18 PM

Ok, doesn't seem to affect us lazy lappers...I'll see what they say at our little meeting on saturday, see if there is a hand out or something.

Hmmm...next mystery? can I commit myself? I know I'll fall behind...but I will catch up eventually...oooh decisions.

QuiltE 04-12-2012 12:25 PM

Hopefully they will have the info for everyone on Saturday! If not, you can give the heads up.

If I get to my LQS before then (which I'm not expecting), I'll let you know what I find out.

Oh of course, you can commit .... it's not til the fall that the new one starts.

QuiltE 04-13-2012 05:21 AM

Woohoo ... Clue # 6 completed last night .... lookin' good, if I do say so myself! :)

Being that you get your Clue#6 tomorrow,
YKViv, I don't think I'll post my pics .... gotta let you have SOME surprise during this Mystery! :)

And when you are getting your #6 ... I'll be off and picking up my #7.

Coming close to the end!!! :)

We would love to see some pictures!
How close to the end are you now?

I'm a lazy lapper as well. How is the 2011 mystery going for you?
I am at a bit of a stand still but hope to start up again in September as my August calender is 'crazy' booked!

hope your summers are going well!

QuiltE 07-24-2012 12:04 PM

Mine is done ... I took it to a Spring Fair entering in the quilt top only class and got a red (1st) ribbon.

I'm wanting to add some extra borders and plan to enter it in the same class in some other fairs this fall. Then my plan is to quilt it this winter on my DSM.

YOurs was such neat fabric ... and I was wondering the other day how you and others have progressed!

I would also love to see it with the extra boarders and the finished quilt in the end? I will keep checking this board every so often.
Gotta go as I am at work (GGAW)

Sorry, I forgot to take a pic ... wait a minute, I might have one from the fair.

You'll see that I stopped one short of the borders in the pattern. I was down to the wire to get it to the Fair and decided to stop before I added it, as I wasn't quite sure what I'm adding. I've had too much on my plate lately to get it out and do the extra borders. I think there'll be the purple border as per the pattern, then a flange and then more fo teh purple. Possibly a 2nd flange. Need to get it all laid out and audition the possibilities.

Have you done anything else since you last posted? Pictures, too, please? and Thanks!! :)

YukonViv 09-09-2012 09:00 AM

Lazy Lapper checking in!

Our reveal date at the quilt shop is set for October 13th so I better get this finished!
I just found this summer so hard to do anything, I only have two side pieces left to sew on quilt top and it's ready for quilting.
As I used the blue and cream kitted fabric, I'm thinking a quality muslin on the back might work...it'll soften over time and is in the same colour tone as the top.

How has everyone else done?

And the big question, have you signed up for the big anniversary celebration Border Creek mystery quilt?

I did. EEEEkkk., I haven't finished this one!!! But have you seen the fabric designed for it by Blackbird Designs?

I'm a huge Blackbird designs fan, I love their cross stitch designs and their style of fabric.

So I'm torn, do I do it as kitted or choose my own.

So how are you doing?

QuiltE 09-09-2012 09:12 AM

Good to "see" you too, Yukon Viv!! :)

And I look forward to seeing photos of your Mystery too.
Our reveal is on the 22nd, though I won't be attending as I'll be working at a Fair, plus my quilt will be in the quilt top only class there. Another Fair this coming weekend too, same class.

I haven't "officially" signed up for the new Mystery, though had said yes, back when we got the pre-notice.
Was going to do so on Friday, then the LQS had closed for the day.
Oh well, perhaps this week?

Do you know the quantities of fabrics needed?
I'd really prefer to use from my stash, if I have what I need! :)

How's everyone else?
And how has your BCS Mystery progressed?
Photos please!!! :D

YukonViv 09-15-2012 11:11 AM

no picture of mine yet, still have to get that final bit done.

I've picked up the fabric requirements for the new mystery and spent a wonderful evening last night at the quilt shop with a friend picking out our fabrics!!! My work buddy is going to use the kit (Blackbird Designs fabric recommended). But my friend Holly found some lucious blues and browns, oh hers is going to be so elegant.

My colours? Oh maybe I shouldn't mention them....they are very fall-ish and I'm sure beyond the comfort zone of many LOL. I`ll take a photo later tonight and post, I`m so excited and I don`t care if it looks crazy when it`s done.

QuiltE 09-15-2012 07:52 PM

Stop It, YukViv... you know it won;t look crazy.
You have a remarkable eye for colour!! :)

I haven't made it to the LQS yet to check out the fabric samples and get my fabric requirements.

Per chance, could you post or PM me with the fabric quantities?
I'm hoping I can shop my stash for the fabrics!! :)

Here is my fabric line up, 1 through 9.
I know crazy eh?

I'm going to call it the Colours of September in the Yukon. Seriously, all these fabrics are in my yard and all around in the mountains. Even the hint of cream could be the snow at the top of Grey Mountain which is just outside my living room window.

Nothing safe about this colour line up LOL. (edited to add, I hope these aren't too big)

QuiltE 09-16-2012 08:48 AM

oooooooooooooh I love them ALL!!!!!!!!
And absolutely nothing crazy about them .... all fabrics I would love to have and could easily use too.
I don't think I have any of them ... but have lots that would coordinate with them in my stash.

Hey ... maybe I should steal your colour scheme idea and see how two similar colour mixes turn out two totally different quilts? :)

YukonViv 09-16-2012 09:10 AM

Oh wouldn't that be fun!!! Yes, go for it, I always find it fun to see how different a quilt can look with similar fabrics...all it takes is a couple of different prints or background fillers and bam, it's a totally different quilt.

Anael 09-16-2012 09:10 AM

Those mystery quilts look like a lot of fun. Unfortunately we can't get the clues here :( Have fun ladies!

YukonViv 09-16-2012 03:11 PM

Anael, hi! Too bad that there isn't an overseas connection but you know what I found? Hamels is a local shop here in Canada and they are able to sign up people with online access only! If you choose your own fabrics you just have to wait to get the clue in the mail every month (it's only a few sheets of paper). It is a thought if you wanted to join us!

http://store.hamelsfabrics.com/store...&Item_ID=75517

Here in the Yukon we will be getting our clues on the second saturday of every month. I believe QuiltE's shop gets theirs sooner so there wouldn't be that much of delay in getting the mail.

I'm so stoked to see how this turns out, it's the special anniversary quilt so it should be fun.

Anael 09-16-2012 10:25 PM

Thanks Vivian. I had a look but either way you get fabric and that's not what I want. Besides when they have to send the instructions and fabric every month it will cost me a fortune :( Maybe there's no other way? I never participated in a mystery so I have no idea.

QuiltE 09-17-2012 09:22 AM

Anael ... you don't have to take the fabric option for the BCS Mysteries. It's the "safe" route as you know the designer has picked the fabric. I didn't use their fabric this past year. And plan to shop my stash again this coming year too. YukViv has chosen fabrics away from the set fabrics too.

That's part of the fun of the mystery ... to see how everyone's different choices come together in a pattern. Yes a risk, but with this designer, she does a wonderful job of guiding you to your fabric choices when you want to do your own thing, so the risk is minimized.

I bet we could arrange for the patterns to be scanned and emailed to you. So please just give YukViv and I the signal and we'll get it all sorted out and be quilting along with you!! :)

Please? Pretty Please?

(The Lazy Lap size is 77x77" and the Queen is 111x111". Mine will be the lap size, though that makes it pretty much a Twin, I think?)

Anael 09-17-2012 09:29 AM

I would love to quilt with you both :D When does it start? I hope not right now as I'm not able to cut fabric due to a wrist injury. This will be the first time I'm doing a mystery! I've seen the last one you made and it's gorgeous so I hope this one will too. I think I'm going to make the lap size too, that's big enough for me and my kitty :D :D

Anael ... here's the first one I did from this designer

And here's a link to her site ... http://www.bordercreekstation.com/index.html

I'm not sure of the dates with my LQS yet ... haven't been there yet to "officially" sign up. The shop is closed Monday's so I can't check with her yet.
The clues come once a month, once it gets started. And just like PC ... there's no rush, you just do it at your own speed!!!

We'll get it all sorted out, Anael ... and there'll be at least three of us doing it together ... and perhaps more??

Closer to the time, I'll start a new thread and see if we can rally more to join us this year!

Anael 09-17-2012 09:46 AM

Oh QuiltE, that's a gorgeous quilt! Tell me, how do you decide what colors to use with a mystery? Did you make this one with Christmas fabrics?

Thank you!!!!!!!

No it wasn't Christmas colours ... it was done a little different than the regular mysteries. Each month we were given a strip of fabric 3x22" and had to put it into the assigned block. You could use a little of it or a lot or all. Then you chose from your stash ... and/or the fabrics you'd already used in the previous blocks. I learned a lot about mixing and matching colours from that quilt. Still haven't got it all together, though came a long way on it. Oh .. just remembered, we had three colour choices to do that quilt ... the one above was the "darks", the one below were the "jewel tones" where all the fabrics we got were batiks. I gave it as a wedding gift ...

How do you choose the fabrics? ... she gives you the info. For example, this is something like what it said for last yr eg. Fabric #1 ... you will see lots of this fabric, make sure it's something you really like
Fabric #2 ... this one will contrast well with #1, and will bring a "pop" to the quilt.
Fabric #3 ... a medium colour to blend with the other two.
And of course, quantities.

What happens is, you will be told what to cut and what to make. You are then told to label them as A, B, C etc and put them in a baggie. A later step may say take 6 of the 12 A blocks and sew them to 6 of the 24 C blocks to make H. Get the idea?

.... and as you go thru each of the steps, you will "think" what it's going to be ... and usually it is not! :) Take a look at the steps in this thread, and you;ll see how they developed.

And don't let this scare you ... her instructions are very well written and it all comes together very easily!! :)

Anael 09-17-2012 10:10 AM

It's a good thing I don't have to choose between those two quilts because I would have wanted them both! The batik one is gorgeous too!

I get the idea and I guess we have to cut all fabrics according to instructions before sewing the first two pieces together? I'm not good at that......cutting first LOL. So I have to shop for fabrics I guess, either in my limited stash or at the LQS. It's a good thing the Day Care Centre gave me a gift card, that will help.
It might also teach me there are other background colors besides WOW. I love WOW and it's such a 'save' color ;)

QuiltE 09-17-2012 10:49 AM

Actually I don't remember doing a lot of cutting up front. More so as we do each step. Of course, this time round perhaps not ... don't know til I see what it says.

The first clue ... will be the one that tells us the fabric quantities and how to choose the fabric.
Then the 2nd will be when we really get to work! :)

And if you have goodies in your stash ... just use them! :)

So hang tight on the shopping for now ... though take a look at the site and you can get a good look at the fabrics that she has chosen. Then you could compare that to YukViv's selection, and it'll give you an idea as to what you might want to head towards.

When I did this year's we had to have larger pieces, being there were only three fabrics, so it was hard to find fabrics in my stash that worked together. Had several pairs, and each I had to purchase the 3rd. This year with the number of fabrics, it'll be smaller quantities needed, so I'm hoping I can do it all for free!!!! :)

Anael 09-17-2012 11:02 AM

That would suit me, not cutting up front! I don't think I have 9 coordinating fabrics in my stash. I will have a look tomorrow as it's too dark already to have a proper look. I love YukViv's selection! I have a gorgeous batik I've been saving for a project and some coordinating fabrics but I need to look if I can find more in my stash that will go with those fabrics. Otherwise a trip to the shop is due :D but I'll wait till the first clue is given.
