This border fabric-yay or nay?

It mostly has all the colors from the top but instead of pink, it has orange. When I look at it that's all I see but I don't know that I'd find anything closer. Another option is to use a solid border (I think I have enough of the dark brown I used for the stripes).

I can't tell from the pic if the background color for the border is black or brown. As long as it's the same as the window sashing, I think it's perfect. :)

Cute quilt!

gale 11-02-2014 10:32 PM

They're both brown but the stripes are a darker brown. I don't have a shop here so I have to order online, and sometimes I have to make an uneducated guess about whether or not something will match. lol

justflyingin 11-02-2014 11:14 PM

I would probably go boring and put an inner thin pink border and then an outer brown one--but probably solid brown, even if I were tired of brown.

QuiltingByFiona 11-02-2014 11:21 PM

I think put a dark brown strip first, to frame it, then the border. I am sure whatever you do will be lovely!

joe'smom 11-02-2014 11:34 PM

I think it looks quite nice. If it were me, I'd want to try it with a larger print for the border, just to see if that might be preferable, but I think it works really well. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't care for the plain brown.

I like this idea, or a white framing border, but I really like your print.

Bree123 11-03-2014 12:33 AM

I think the dark brown solid fabric would be stunning, but the medium one is nice, too. It's just a different look... more casual & playful.

FYI ... some sites will give you Pantone color numbers so you can get more exact color matches. :)

ooh good ideas! Okay here are some of the other combos mentioned (I don't have a bigger print on hand with these colors).

QuiltnNan 11-03-2014 02:24 AM

i would go with the pictured print, not the solid.

Mitch's mom 11-03-2014 03:05 AM

I'm odd man out here. If you don't need the border for size - I like the narrow brown strip then I'd bind it in the same brown. It is a beautiful quilt!

psychonurse 11-03-2014 03:22 AM

I too would go with the border print. The solid border is ho hum.

KwiltyKahy 11-03-2014 04:36 AM

I like the narrow dark border and then the print. Makes a nice frame.

Barb in Louisiana 11-03-2014 04:42 AM

I vote for the pink small border, then the solid.

It may be the picture, but the print reads as orange to me. I don't see anything to tie the darker pinks with it.

I'll hang out with you.....and if size is needed I think the wide brown, to me the print takes away from the lovely pattern of the quilt, I see the colors not the design.

bjchad 11-03-2014 04:51 AM

I like the print, no inner border and bind in the dark brown. Very nice quilt!

hairquilt 11-03-2014 05:02 AM

If the narrow border was a color in the print(yellow or blue)I think the print fabric would look better.Wonderful quilt you made!

HillCountryGal 11-03-2014 06:23 AM

I really like the narrow dark brown strip, then the print. Gives your eye a place to rest.

HillCountryGal 11-03-2014 06:25 AM

HA... after reading all these posts, you are bound to be totally confused!
Trust your instincts! And do what makes you happy.

this was my thought too. I like the print as the border, do not notice the Orange at all.

I like the middle photo. Pink inner border, then dark brown solid. I'm not fond of the print. To me, it just does not go with the rest of the beautiful top.

nygal 11-03-2014 06:57 AM

I like the print border next to the small dark brown one. Looks great.

joe'smom 11-03-2014 07:00 AM

I vote narrow brown border + print.

Annie68 11-03-2014 07:58 AM

Hmmm, lets see, to continue the confusion, I'd go with any of those light pastels for the thin inner border then the larger print. Love the quilt.

gale 11-03-2014 09:33 AM

Thanks everyone! although it does seem like I'd be more confused (lol) I think I will audition a few other solids but ultimately will likely go with the narrow dark brown (seems to finish off the pattern of the sashing nicely) and then the print or nothing.

katesnanna 11-04-2014 03:38 AM

Do you have enough of the pink to use it as the boarder? I would make a narrow border from the dark brown to frame the centre, then use pink for the border. IMHO the brown is too dark to be wide and would take away from your centre.

twinkie 11-04-2014 04:09 AM

I love the design of your quilt. I think I would put either a narrow pink or a narrow dark brown before I used the print. It is so nicely done.

paoberle 11-04-2014 04:45 AM

Hate the print. You definitely need a solid border.

nanna-up-north 11-04-2014 04:54 AM

I like the brown strip and then the printed brown. The plain colors are just too boring.

Me like this too!!!!!!.

WMUTeach 11-04-2014 05:28 AM

I am inclined to say..... Yea!

roadrunr 11-04-2014 05:36 AM

I also like the narrow brown border with the print. Your quilt looks lovely!

Seaside gal 11-04-2014 05:40 AM

I don't like the border print at all. It detracts from the pretty quilt and doesn't match at all. Just my opinion.

sulyle 11-04-2014 06:03 AM

I like the one solid dark border. It really enhances the graphics of the quilt. Pretty quilt by the way.

piecNpat 11-04-2014 06:54 AM

As in Facebook...

"like......"

Wanabee Quiltin 11-04-2014 07:02 AM

I love the small pink and larger dark brown borders.

trolleystation 11-04-2014 07:34 AM

Pictured print gets my vote.

needles3thread 11-04-2014 07:35 AM

I vote for the solid brown like in the quilt.

margied 11-04-2014 07:44 AM

I like the print border and the thin brown solid inner border

Chester the bunny 11-04-2014 08:15 AM

I would do the thin brown border and use odd sized pieces of the leftovers from your quilt for an outside border.
