Is this border too heavy?
2 Attachment(s)
This is a piece resulting from a mystery quilt thingy from my guild. The fabric selection instructions were so vague I ended up with this very blue piece. Don't get me wrong; I love blue. I already pulled out some mismatched (pinky) blocks and I'm left with this. I'm trying to take it up to a usable size (Bed) It's at roughly at 56x 70 and I'd like to get it up close to 65x80. Of the original materials I either couldn't see them as a large border or there wasn't enough.
Should I go to the store??? I only need about 3 yds. Thanks ladies MaryKatherine |
I like that border -- it makes the other colors glow.

Oh no, I like it. looks good!!
I also like it. Your center blocks have "mass" and so it doesn't seem like an overpowering border. it's beautiful!
Honestly, I'd go to the store. I don't think the border really matches the rest of the quilt. I think I would stick with the medium to the medium dark border..... either one of the first two colors in the second to the last row. Just my opinion.
I think you found a nice balance. The quilt and boarder look good together. IMHO I would do the binding in the gold.
I really like it. I like blue/brown and the gold works to make the colors merge!
I think it depends on the effect you want. The center blocks seem to look deeper and richer with that border. If you want to lighten up the quilt I would get a different fabric. Personally I think it will be beautiful with the dark border. It gives the whole quilt a feeling of elegance.
I think it's fine. Save your money for another project. Your proposed wide boarder keeps with the modern feel.
I love it! If you hadn't included the border fabric in the main body I would have used one of the blues but it looks awesome to me.
I like the brown. Especially since there is a lot of blue in the quilt already. It does "match" because that same fabric is clearly seen IN the quilt!! Looks good!!
It carries the color from the center. I would use a blue binding though. Quilt looks great.
Perfect!
best, d |
I think the border takes it in a very modern direction. I think I'd use it.
Keep it---love it.
i vote for that one
I like it....it pulls all the colors together.....takes the blueness out of the quilt and makes it all blend.....great quilt top!
I love the border with this great quilt combo.

I like the border. It looks great with the rest of the quilt.
I like it also. Seems to complete the quilt. Nice job.
Personally, the brown seems a bit "heavy" to me.
I like it. The other colours pop!
Count me in on liking the border you have in the pics! I think it pulls the whole quilt together..good job!

It brings out the gold and tones down the blue - save your money for another project down the line!
I really like the brown border it is a nice balance
I like the border.
Your quilt is beautiful. Love the border! I think sometimes blue quilts can be a tiny bit cool, hence summer quilts, but yours has a touch of an Asian theme and warmth. Really, really like it.
My first thought was "how elegant". So that being said I really like it.
Keep the one you got....looks great. Behind in gold.
Great pick for border.
I think the border looks great. It's a perfect foil for the intense blue of the quilt. Lois
I really like it too!
I like the border, it's a great combination for the main quilt. I'm not sure what you mean by heavy though? Are you asking if the border is too wide?

I love it! I think it gives it a richness that it wouldn't have without it.

Because I asked for advice on a quilt I was designing, I realized that there really is a taste in quilts. Some really like their borders to be a frame others like it to blend into the quilt itself, this bias really determines the answer. If you want your quilt to be framed choose the darker if you want it to blend into the quilt match it to the interior. I really like the "frame" but each to their own.
I think its fantastic...great job!
The border works if you are trying to emphasize the orange and brown in the quilt. I think it makes the quilt feel a bit heavy but just depends on what you like. No quilt police here!
I agree that it ties the brown blocks in the main quilt together, otherwise they would seem odd. Keep it! Love the quilt.
In a word no. It looks good to me
