I would like something darker...not so wishy-washy..to make that BEAUTIFUL hand work jump out!!!!!!
Tan is my choice...
I like the blue better but whichever you choose it will be great.
I think the blue is too busy; there is not enough contrast between the quilt and the border. The tan is just right. The whole quilt is rather subdued tones, so you wouldn't want something that would be a huge contrast. The tan shows off the beautiful edge of the quilt just right.
I like the tan over the blue but must agree with some of the other posts that you need something just a little darker so i t doesn't blend so much. BEAUTIFUL !!! Keep us posted with what you choose and pictures of it finished. I am in the process of doing EPP also and really enjoy it, very good take with project. Mine is going to be a wall hanging (if it ever gets finished) and is more of a GFG pattern in all blues and yellows. I will probably need the same kind of advise when I get this far. I find it easier to help others decide on color but when it comes to my own projects I can't decide on my own.
Now that i had a little longer to think about it, can you go darker?
I don't know why but i always seem to like very light or very dark borders, whichever doesn't take away from the flow. |
Your quilt is awesome! Love the colors, too. But I think that the exquisite piecing gets lost in both of the border choices. I'd suggest going with the white you used, or another solid color - perhaps a blue that coordinates.
Oh such work went into this, I'm impressed. I can see where you fussy cut some to match perfectly. WOW!!!! Have you thought of using a white for the border as you have very little white in the quilt and I would think it would really show the diamond pattern made from all those hexagons? Is this all hand or machine sewn?
Hi Suz, it is hand sewn, used glue on the precut papers so taking any short cuts I can! Thank you all for your suggestions, such a wide range of opinion to consider...
Love the tan one!
They are both nice but I vote for the tan one.
Please post a picture of what you decide on. You mentioned using glue on the precuts, I use glue stick to baste the fabric to my cardboard so I don't need to hand baste. I have not had any problem with them popping off when I want them to. I am all for making short cuts and making things easier when possible.
IMHO the tan is perfect.
I do like the tan one a lot but I think it may make some of your work disappear a bit as there is not much contrast with your outer pieced area.
Of the two, I like the tan. Do you have a bit deeper tan than that? I tend towards the dark.
Gorgeous quilt - I like the tan one.
Do you have enough of the blue that you used in the center of the small diamonds for the border? I think it might help things connect better than the first two choices.
It's a very beautiful quilt. You have a lot of work in it. It's not something I'm likely to tackle soon, if ever. Rodney |
I like the blue, but its hard to really decide without seeing a pic of the whole top. Could you upload a pic of the whole top for us? I also agree with an earlier comment that it would be a good idea to audition all of the colors in the quilt that aren't tan or cream...maybe a green might be nice. It's beautiful so far!
Beautiful quilt. I think I'd go for t he beige border, as it seems to make your blocks stand out and shine.
I vote tan for a beautiful quilt! :)
The tan one shows the fabrics off the best. Great job!!!
I also prefer the tan. Its looking good!
Tan for me.....awesome quilt.
I prefer the soft blue. The tan just blends in and does nothing for the beautiful piecing you have done. Never tried to use those diamond pieces and you have done such a modern twist on an old traditional pattern. You succeeded brilliantly !!
i like the tan
I like the bottom one. Shows off your quilt squares better.
I like the second one better. It stands out more.
Bottom!!!! Beautiful!!!
Neither. the quilt is beautiful and complex. the borders look like old lady calico. I'd go for more contrast at the borders...it's one of those things you know it when you see it...needs some strength.
I like the tan one better, shows off beautiful quilt better.
I don't like this word but sometimes it's just right - IMO the bottom (tan) fabric gives the quilt a very classy look, also very old English. Thanks for the tip about using a glue stick when doing EPP. I'm working on a 30's repro dresden plate right now and can't wait to try it. Pls show your quilt when it's finished, it will be a beauty.
It is kind of hard to decide since the blue border is out of focus for me and the tan is a much better photo, but the one thing I really want to see are the littler triangles in the white or cream to finish off the feathered look on the diamonds. Maybe something a little darker value wise to let the whole thing pop.
I have to say neither.....it is a gorgeous quilt but needs a brighter border....JMHO.
The beige is my choice.
I think I would use a darker border to make that beautiful design with the hexies pop out. It is gorgeous.
I wouldn't choose either, I think it needs something with a little more contrast. Beautiful quilt!
I like the tan what a beautiful quilt
Tan gets my vote, but try white also - might continue the white surround look.

I am slowly coming to a point in my epp project where I will need to appliqué the body to a 2-3 inch border.I have arrived at two choices: the blue floral versus the old looking tan linen look. Which do you like, okay to say neither and give another option, thank you ladies!
Tn or try white???? http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps76032e80.jpg[/URL] http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc1c8d250.jpg |
