Which border would you use, or neither please.
I am slowly coming to a point in my epp project where I will need to appliqué the body to a 2-3 inch border.I have arrived at two choices: the blue floral versus the old looking tan linen look. Which do you like, okay to say neither and give another option, thank you ladies!

So pretty! I think the bottom one shows off the lovely epp better. This is going to be an incredibly beautiful quilt.
Bottom one...gorgeous!
Thank you, Dunster is your avatar EPP? WOW!
I vote for the tan one too, it shows off the EPP beautifully.
I like the tan. I thought I would like the blue to highlight the blue in the blocks but the tan actually makes the blue pop more. It is going yo be gorgeous!
i love the soft blue
I love your color choices in this quilt, it is so mellow and sweet, I also vote for the tan border.

I prefer the 2nd one also, beautiful quilt!
WOW!!! That is one amazing EPP ... those small diamonds especially look tricky!! Love the pattern.
Personally .. I'd like to see a little more contrast between the quilt top and the border. It blends a little too much and doesn't do the top justice. How about either a white or a very dark brown? You can then put an outer border around it to "frame" it all. |
yep, the tan one looks very soothing and shows off the work best.
Personally , I think white would be a better choice There would be more contrast with piecing. Since you have some white it would also give a continuity.

imho, the bottom one allows the beautiful pattern to show. This as going to be a stunning quilt and I have only scene one little corner. I am looking forward to seeing the grand finish.

Cream would be pretty but I have kids and a dog that sleeps on the bed. I was going out on limb using as much as I already did ;)

I like the blue best. I think the tan is not enough contrast to show off your lovely EPP whereas the blue shows it off beautifully. (IMHO) it is going to be an amazing quilt no matter which border you choose.
Definitely the blue. It pops the blue in your piecing.
Personally I would put one more hex in the deep indentations and then bind the zigzag edge in dark brown. Or even leave the edge as it is and bind -- have to be bias for the binding but would make a truly original quilt.
Beautiful quilt!! I vote for the pale blue.
I like the bottom one. Your quilt is just awesome.
I like the taupe border, too. It belongs.
No opinion here. I think it is beautiful, whichever color you use.
I would use a brighter color like the teal/aqua for more contrast. The tan blends to much with the last round of EPP IMHO
I like the blue better. In the pictures you showed us there is no blue on the edges but there is a lot of tan and brown. I like the contrast of the blue. Someone also mentioned white. It might be worth looking at too.

I love the softness of the bottom one, that is my vote!!! Beautiful!
I vote for the tan. The quilt colors are subtle and beautiful. However, I'd be curious if you did try it with a darker brown (one that matches those flower centers) and let us take another look.
What are you wanting to accomplish w/ the border? To square off the quilt?
I don't like either one because they don't add the "pizzazz" that this beautiful quilt deserves. I don't like the tan because it is too close in color to the outside diamonds. What would it look like to fill in the outside diamonds w/ the hexagons to "square off the sides" Then add the white color - maybe narrow (1.5 inches wide) and then the tan color. Consider auditioning all the different colors in the quilt to the outside to see what the different combinations would look like. I am often surprised that what I don't think will work actually works the best. Consider googling Grandma's Flower Garden quilt images and look how others have finished off hexagon pieced quilts. Take your time - that is one beyond gorgeous quilt! |
Your quilt is absolutely, stunningly beautiful! I like the tan border better because it looks softer and more elegant to me.
I vote for the tan also.
My vote is the tan border!
I like the 2nd one the best. You do wonderful work!

I vote blue...it has contrast and pulls the blue from the diamonds. The tan seems to "fade away". IMHO. Whatever you choose, it is simply beautiful. Lots of work!!! You should be proud!
Beautiful quilt! I vote for the tan. Deb
Beautiful quilt! I like the tan for border.... makes the quilt stand out...Deb
Neither, not enough contrast.
The bottom one shows off all your work
The solid color one.
I agree with the tan choice -- it makes the rest of the quilt really pop. Nice work.
