Your quilt, your rules. If it looks good without those borders then go ahead and do it that way.

I never put top & bottom boarders on, because I never learned how. The quilting class I was going to take, had to be cancled do to others illness. I just turn both top & bottom in about 1" starting in the middle of the top and working both ways out from there. I then do each side & the bottom like wise I use long stick pins close together. That is you are talking about hemming it. I do put some boarders on to match or contrast on top quilts.

i make tons without borders and i typically do a facing instead of binding.

Oh sure, you don't have to add borders if you don't want them. Sometimes it looks better without.
