Has this ever happened to you? I went to Joann's and bought fabric. It was a large flower print. Well they had a yard that had been cut, that they rolled onto a bolt. I wasn't paying attention. I bought the yard and 2 yards of what I thought was the same fabric from the bolt. Well when I was re-folding it, I discovered that the yard had a tan background but the bolt fabric has a cream background. Otherwise it seems to be the same. (I think) The hydrangas on the bolt is lighter than the ones on the tan fabric. I wish the cutter would have told me that they were different so I could have made a decision to get it the way I did or reject the cut piece and purchase all from the bolt. I am not sure what to do now. Any thoughts.

Take it back and show the manager, and explain what happened. They might cut you another piece if they still have enough on the bolt.

That would be so frustrating. I would take it back and see if you can get the matching fabric.

You can take fabric back to JoAnn's for a refund, although I think you need the receipt.

It seems Joann's dyelots vary a lot! I've had this same problem, both with quilting and home-dec fabric. Is it the same in a LQS?

Take it back. If you don't try, you'll never know.
I'm getting better at sticking up for myself as a consumer.
Yesterday I had to buy new orthotics for my son, I had to drop him off at the store door (he's 10) and then drive around the block 6 times before I could get a parking spot. When I got into the store, my blood pressure was up, and I told the shop keeper what a pain parking was and that he should move his store to where his customers could at least park their car.
He gave me the $45 orthotics at half price.

Take it back for that was not what you intended to pay for.
Surely they will understand. I have taken material back that had an awful odor to it and also because of it being faulty.

I would take it back and ask for 3 yards in a continuous piece. They must have rolled the last yard from one bolt onto the new bolt instead of making it a remnant. What I don't undersatand is why the clerk said nothing! Especially since most people want it in one length. We have great JoAnn clerks, I can't imagine that happening. But, if nothing else, take it back so they can use the situation as a training tool.

I would at least give the store a call and speak to a manager. You might be pleasantly surprised at their willingness to make this right. If there is enough of the fabric left on the bolt, I'm almost positive they will give you a 3 yd cut in exchange for what you have now. At least give them a chance!! Good luck !

This Joann's is going out of business and they are giving 25% off all fabric. Said they lost their lease. This was quilting 100% cotton and absolutely gorgeous. I spent about $200 on fabric when I bought this. There was 2 clerks in the store. One was just cutting fabric and the other was manning the cash register and cutting. I had let 4 people go ahead of me as I had a basket FULL of bolts and fat quarters and they only had one or two bolts. I wasn't paying attention.

I thought about tea dying but am afraid that it would darken or muddy the flowers too. Don't want to take that chance. I will go back to the store and see if they will exchange that piece.

The idea for two quilts as was suggested is possible. I have some red material that will be beautiful with it and some yellows that will be awesome with it too.

If it is a store closing clearance, they typically have signs up saying All Sales Final. But I would still check to see if you can get more of the one on the bolt.

I would go back to the store and buy another yard of the bolt. I would see if they would exchange or refund on the first piece. If not I would stick it in the stash.

And yes, I have done this but did not realize till I had it in the quilt. Mine was supposed to be a white aon white and one was more creamy.

Just recently I bought some and the print was the same but the fabric on the main part was much heavier and thicker something I did not desire.

I have learned to not buy the loose piece and buy it all off the long piece.

Return the fabric. I used to work there and would see this all the time. It is two fabrics from two different bolts either has a different sku number or same fab, just different run. They will take it back and cut a new pc for you.

this is another reason why I fold all my fabrics in the store. I shop and fill my basket then let the clerk cut but I ask they hand me the fabric so I am able to fold and check for flaws and you would be so surprised at some of the flaws I've found over the years....the clerks are always good about leting me fold...saves them time!! I like to fold in 6 to 8 inch sections like it is when it comes off the bolt so if i only need a few inches, I don't have to unroll a big mess to find the end....just flip and cut!

I would like to think that if you bought it recently that Joann's would either take it back or give you more of the same fabric. If not, it may be a good chance to get creative and use the smaller yardage on the outside or inside portion of the quilt to show some gradation, since it is very similar. Just a suggestion.

Take it back. At my JoAnns you can return material that has been cut if it is 1 yard or more and has not been used.

I had this happen a couple times, only once I made it home with the fabric. It was a blue cotton I got the fabric home and not only was the feel different but the color was too. It was two different brands but they had rolled the one yard cut around the bold. The other times that it has happened is I have gone to get some muslin and I grab the bold I want, then I get back to the cut table and they have two or three different fabrics rolled around the bolt that says the size I want. Sometimes its not even all the same size, sometimes not the same color. I always watch what they are cutting and I now I refuse the precut pieces that are wrapped around the bolt.

Anyways in the case of the mismatched blue that made it home I took it back to the fabric table with my recipt. they told me to go get the fabric I had orginally gotten and they cut me another yard of it off. I was happy.

purchase all from the bolt....Since the yd. of fabric was a leftover and, if you like the fabric on the bolt, I would take it back. I'm sure they would let you return that piece and have another cut from the bolt. It WAS their error putting that piece on the bolt in the first place. And because it's a quilt shop, I'm sure they realize the importance of having the SAME fabric for your project.

Joanns will return fabric as long as the peice is not cut and have receipt. But in this case I would return to store and speak to manager and tell her what happened and ask for refund. Then purchase more fabric.

Our local JoAnn's does this all the time. I picked out fabric a few months ago and the clerk did point this out. I wanted 3 yards of the fabric and took the last yard of that which was wrapped into the beginning of the new bolt and then had her cut 2 more yards as they were the same pattern and the colors matched. When I got home there was only the 1 yard piece in my bag. The 2 yard cut was GONE, but I was charged for 3 yards of it. When I went back with my receipt, the store manager said they "never" roll the leftover from one bolt into a new bolt and anything left at the end of the bolt is either sold to the last customer at the remnant price or put into the remnant bin. It took a little arguing, but they finally refunded my money for the 2 yards.

Joann's is one of the few places that will let you return fabric I would return it .

If you take it all back, they should give you a brand new cut of all of it from the bolt. I wouldn't keep either one because they could very well have another bolt up by now.

Joanne's will take it back, just don't cut anything. It is their policy. and yes the lady should of said something ,but given the benefit maybe she was day dreaming and didn't notice either.

I think that Joann's will take back the fabric if you haven't cut it and if you have the receipt....

I don't but from Joann's or Hancock's because their fabric doesn't seen like the same as at the quilt shops...even if it is the same pattern..I got rid of most that came from there and ClothWorld...Seems like a harder fabric...and their cost have gone up so it's not a lot of savings...

I had that happen to me recently at JoAnn's too but caught it at the cutting table. I also would take it back and get the amount you want in the "right" fabric. Guess this is a warning to us to check carefully on the fabrics we buy if there are already cut pieces wrapped around the bolt.

Our Joann's told me that you can return cut fabric as long as it has not been washed or cut at home. Bring your receipt and the pieces to your Joann's and I am positive they will give you 3 yards of matching fabric. Good luck.

Take it back. I used to think once it was cut you were dead in the water but not true, Joanns is pretty good about taking fabric returns. I stood in line behind a gal who was returning fabric because she had asked for 3 yds. and the gal cut 2-1/2! And, of course, the receipt showed 3. I've found you really have to watch the gals cutting at Joanns and if you think they are screwing up, make them do it again right there.

I didn't question several cuts until I hit the cash register and the poor guy cashiering had to go back to the cutting table to resolve the problem - the cutter had made mistakes on every piece of fabric but fortunately, for me, I was clearing bolts. What she couldn't get right was the yardage she had measured!
