Bought a New Machine Today

Well, I finally did it. I bought the Babylock Jane which is the straight stitch only mechanical machine. I was agonizing over the Brother 1500 and the Juki 2010 and ended up with the Babylock, essentially the same machine. My dealer carries Babylock and Brother only. He sold me the BL for $30 more than the online Brother price. He also agreed to fix the needle threader (I broke it) on my Brother NX450 at no charge.

I came home and cleaned up my sewing room (again) to make room and I'll start messing with the machine tomorrow.

Sooooo. This makes me a Mommy of......
2 vintage Singers
1 1980's Pfaff
1 1970's Kenmore
1 computerized modern-day Brother
1 mechanical modern-day Babylock

Life is good.

Congratulations, I hope you have many happy years sewing on it.

How do you decide which one you want to sew on. Or is each one for different jobs

What a nice treat! Enjoy your new machine.

Which machine I use does depend on what I'm sewing. I'm planning on using the Babylock for FMQ.

I have been looking at all 3 of those machines also, but not sure which is the best buy. If they are comparable why not buy the least expensive.

Hope you are pleased with you purchase after breaking it in.

Happy Sewing on your new machine! I am excited for you, always great to have a new quilting resource.

I think you will like your new machine a lot. I have the older version called a BL Quilters Professional. I like to quilt on it a lot better than my BL crescendo.

I agree with you and I wanted to buy the Brother machine. But when my dealer offered the BL at just $30 more, I took the bait. And I'll tell you, so far I'm happy. The machine is quiet, I can tap on the foot pedal and get one stitch - I was thinking the Juki had the edge because it has speed control, but I don't need it. The BL pedal is highly responsive. I do have a lot more playing around to do, but so far I'm happy. And I do like to go through a dealer rather than purchase online when I can.

Yeah you! quite a list of sewing options... congrats on your new baby... lock that is. : )

I have a Babylock Jane and I love it. I also have a Juki TL98 QE Both straight stitch only, I do have several others.
My daughter has the Brother 1500, straight stitch only. All are wonderful machines.

Pudge 03-30-2015 05:19 AM

I agree with you, Jingle. A major objective for me in purchasing another machine was to increase harp space. The BL is now in first place and my Singer 15-91 comes in second place for harp space.

Enjoy the new addition

Jane is the machine I use for quilting and heavy duty sewing such as denim. Since May 2014, I have pieced and quilted 5 quilts. ( All the grands are covered!). /
Currently, I am sewing 2 layers of fleece with poly batting for a friend. Jane handles it without a hitch. I have cleaned and oiled her twice since she joined my sewing machine family. FMQ is an accomplishment I hope to successfully achieve using Jane. When I do, that will be MY skill, not that of a stitch regulator or computer driven program. She is definitely a basic straight stitch only machine that delivers a strong performance! I think you will be pleased.:)

You go girl at least you can name off all of your machines and I hope you have a great time sewing with the new one!

RedGarnet222 03-30-2015 09:05 AM

Oh what fun!!! You will just love it.

Fizzle 03-30-2015 05:55 PM

Congrats! I think that would be an awesome machine to have!

Path50 03-31-2015 03:04 PM
