bought old house quilts in attic

Welcome - the quilt is called Cathedral Windows - usually hand sewn - but not very old and not at all valuable. I have one and it is quite delicate to wash - have to "mend" it after it is washed - so we don't use it.

I think it is beautiful. Usually for me, this is one I would put on a spare bed. The value of it depends on the way it was sewn, the fabrics, and the way it was quilted, if it is. The size also. Have you checked all over it for a date? Or a signature? Every quilt has value to someone, you could probably get $100 or so for it depending where you are located. If you know who the house belonged to, it could increase the value. Enjoy it!

Cathedral Windows is one of those quilts that takes ***forever** to make by hand. For me, it would be a keeper if it was made by hand, just because of all the time involved in creating it. Cathedral Windows made by machine are a little faster, although still can take a long time. I can't tell from your photos whether the stitching on the curved portions was done by hand or machine.

Cathedral Windows quilts tend to be quite heavy because of all the layers of fabric in them, so they rarely contain batting. This is why you may be thinking it is a summer quilt.

Enlarging the photo, you see little puckers on the curves. The kind hand-stitching makes. It is so pretty! Quite a find.

What kind of value are you referring to? Monetary? aesthetic?

A lot of hours went into that quilt. As for value it tough to say with a photo. Call a local quilt shop and ask if they know of an appraiser, that is the best way to determine the $$$ value. You can also go on line and search for an appraiser in your area. Some quilt guilds have an appraiser that comes on occasion to do appraisals , so that is one more avenue into finding an appraiser.
