What about making the Garden Twist pattern and using the 4-patch poseys between the lattice? I think I'll try it for a full size guest bed...
http://www.inthebeginningfabrics.com...wistinsert.pdf I just need a fabric to fall in love with me. :-D |
It's a garden - that would look nice
|
This pattern is setting on my shelf waiting for me. I love it.
|
Can't wait to see this??????
It should be beautiful................ |
That quilt is on my bucket list. & when I do it, I am going to incorporate your 4p posie idea!!!!
Love it! You are ingenious. |
Looks like a good idea!
Keep in mind that the larger blocks, you'll lose some of your 4PP as you'll be chopping off the corners with the trellis twist piece. With the two different sizes, you could do a smaller 4PP for the small blocks ... or use the original fabric. Another similar one is my Double Rose Trellis pattern. You can have a look at it here. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-122204-1.htm |
The 4 patch posey gives directions for a number of different size squares so will probably work. I didn't use the garden twist but set mine on point with just thin sashing. I think you're idea will be even prettier. I'de send a pic but it's still on the frame cause I can't decide how to quilt it.

QuiltE ~ I've considered those options. I'll have to see what fabric I use and how I think it would look best. Love your Double Rose Trellis!
Does anyone know how large I would cut the posey blocks to end up with 7 1/2" blocks after they are cut and sewn back together. I'm thinking maybe cutting 8 1/2" and then squaring them up to 7 1/2". I don't actually have the 4-patch posey pattern. |

The trick would be to find the "right" trellis fabrics and you'd have one dynamite quilt. Wrong, and you'd lose the spectacle of the 4PP. Garden Twist only takes 2 trellis fabrics, my Double Rose Trellis uses 4. I'm nudging you to do it .... just take your time for the "right" choices for all fabrics to be used!!!!! |
I think it will look great...hurry up, we want to see it...heheh
|
I'm thinking triangle. I guess 4 patch would be easier. Any preference? Does one look better? 4 patch would be easy to calculate.

BTW .... you could downsize the lattice if you decide the larger block size is too large for the 4PP and you only want 5" squares for example. Here's my 4PP WIP ... I suspect the print is smaller than yours. I went with 2-1/2" squares, finishing at 4", smaller than most people do. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-114907-1.htm |
Can't wait to see it

I think it would look good that way.

It'll be pretty and be sure to post a pic when completed :)

What a great idea, I'm thinking I'll make one with 45 degree wedges for the large print area and 4 patch posies for the smaller square area. i love the maze idea for a setting!

Is there a problem with the setting triangles on the outer edge where the floral fabric you would use in the 4PP would have to some up against each other? Seems like you would lose the effect of the 4PP in those areas.

Is it kind of rule-of-thumb that a larger scale print would yield nicer 4pps in larger sized blocks and vice versa? I'd kind of like to end up with a 6" (finished) 4pp. |
My experience with the 4PP is that a focus fabric that has a distinct motif, whether floral or geometric, and a good amount of background, so those motifs stand out, gives the best effect. I think the floral you have chosen doesn't have enough background. I always check the potential of a fabric by using mirros set at a 90 degree angle. Give it a try!

I have the pattern and fabric in my sewing room just waiting for me to get to it. I think your idea is a good one. Please post pictures when you finish.

I like the idea...

Beautiful! I've looked at it before and would love to make it with peonies or roses in the center,

Wondering .......... have you cut into the fabric yet? and have something to show us? :)
|
Good idea. I presume the 4 patches will be the larger blocks, with smaller, maybe fussy cuts for the small squares?

I'll definitely post a picture when I have something going, but it may be a while. |
