I added the strip in the corner of the block, then played around with the snowball to come up with this variation. One of these days I am going to have to sew one of these designs. I really like this one. I would make the strips around the snowball as a 3 part strip....light, blue, light, then cut my triangles from it for ease of getting the size right. The snowball edges ended up as a 3" blue with a 2" taupe. I think it gives it an elegance. I don't think I would go with the borders. I'm beginning to like the much smaller borders, letting the blocks shine.

One of our readers noticed that if I mitered the corners on the border, I would be carrying the diagonal look through the whole quilt. So I added the miters to EQ7. I like it. The blocks I created are 10" finished blocks. The borders are 1", 2", & 5" for the final had a finished size of 66" square. Thanks for the comments.
