Lisa T 02-02-2010 09:31 AM

Bunko? Isn't that a dice game? Maybe little zipper pouches to put game pieces in? Or go another way and get little photo albums, cover them with great fabric and insert a couple of recipes for snacks. If you all get together to play games, there must be snacks!

Maride 02-02-2010 10:22 AM

Do you have to make a gift for every participant or just for the big winner?

In my Bunko group charges $5 to play and at the end the $$ is divided among the winners depending on the # of players:

Most wins
Most looses
Equal wins and looses
Most Bunkos

The person holding the bunko stone last gets the final Bunko gift, put together by the hostess.

When I hosted at my house I made a qlap quilt. They didn't know but they syspected it would be a quilt and the competition was amazing. Thank God I had no neighbors at the time because the scraming, yelling and laughing could be heard miles away. It was Halloween and we were all dressed up. I magine the screamming when at he end I was holding the bunko stone. I gave the gift to the person holding it before me. I also made two totes to be raffled among people who had never won anything before.

It was described as the best Bunko ever in our group. That may have had something to do with the fact that before he left, DH made a pitcher of Mango Mojitos. Nobody was drunk, but very tipsy for a while. We made sure every one was safe to drive and ended up taking two girls home that day and one stayed overnight. It was so much fun.

Ever since DH lost his job I lost my interest nad haven't gone back to play. I do miss it.

karielt 02-02-2010 10:31 AM

Yes we get kind of crazy too! I need:
1 $25 prize
1 $20 pize
2 $15 prizes
8 $5 prizes

We all pitch in $10 and the person hosting makes the dinner and comes up with the prizes.

I thought of a quilt for the big prize but making a quilt for only $25 is a little hard. Or I just can't think of a way. The $5 prizes are my hardest to figure out.

The only quilt I would do for $25 would be a small wallhanging. I have sold some wholecloth for that amount, because I make them in one day.

For your $5 I suggest fabric wallets: I make the one on the pic and sell for that price. The pattern was at my LQS for $5.00.

How much time do you have?

How about an ironing board caddy. Made one for a drawing in my quilt guild and it was a hit. Found a free pattern on line.

Are there other quilters in your Bunko group?

Dancing Needle 02-02-2010 11:26 AM

I'm working on a set of Criss-Cross Coasters to go with a table runner I'm making for a wedding gift. The coasters are fun to make and everyone I've given a set really likes them. I think they would make a fun (and inexpensive) bunko gift. Here's the link:

Coasters, hot pads, table runners, if they are in holiday themes everyone can use them with their different decors.

Luggage tags made out of little quilting squares are fun too...It makes it so much easier to recognize your black luggage going around the carousel. I sew a little loop on them like you would on a hot pad and attatch a key ring to attach them to the luggage handle. You could make them out of neutral colors if you have men that are playing also. I attach one to each side of the handle for better visibility.

Thanks for the link and the great Ideas!

How about snuggies, or something like that. I know you can get a pattern off the net.

At Bunko everyone was having a problem remember which plastic cup was theirs so I made cup sleeves for everyone. I have an embroidery machine so embroidered everyone's name on them but you could use different print fabrics to instead.

Attached is picture of a sleeve I made to use when I'm in my singing group and don't want to lose my Starbucks.

Send me a personal email if you're interested and I'll give you the directions, they are really easy.

Nope besides my daughter who is in the group too. We are the only women that sew. Thats why I thought it would be fun to make something they couldn't buy.

LindaR 02-03-2010 06:26 AM

I received a thank you gift using this same idea but a little larger to be used as a hot pad. There was a recipe card slipped into one of the folds.

bstanbro 02-04-2010 09:29 AM

pin cushions?

brendadawg 02-04-2010 10:11 AM

The little wallets from the Lazy Girl pattern??? Placemats or table runner??? (Criss Cross Coasters was my first thought, along with the other girls who thought that.

rosalia856 02-04-2010 10:16 AM

How about pocket pals made from fat quarters? You get two pocket pals from a fat quater. You can cut a bunch and then chain sew them. It is a wonderful little gift to put some money and your credit cards slip it into you jean pocket and off you go. Of course to buy more fabric. LOL

iamsogone 02-04-2010 12:14 PM

maybe a key chain out of mini block

JudeWill 02-04-2010 02:02 PM

Coasters? Or maybe that's too small.

vickig626 02-04-2010 04:43 PM

what about Tater Baker Bags or Pot Pinchers?

I was thinking on this similar line....except the only mug sleeves I have seen are designated for ceramic coffee cups/mugs.

Is this Bunko crew coffee drinkers? For warm winter drinks you could make a Coffee gift basket by adding a mug sleeve, mathcing coaster, coffee cup, creamer, sugar, sweet 'n' low maybe a shot bottle of Irish Cream, Amaretto, Kahlua, etc., shaved chocolate, a spoon, chocolate dipped spoon or.....

you could make a Chocolate Lovers gift basket by adding the mug sleeve, matching coaster, coffee cup/mug, cocoa/hot chocolate w/mini marshmallows, chocolate candy, chocolate scented candle, shaved chocolate, chocolate rose. These gift baskets were a hit at the office Christmas party this year! Everyone loved them, the guys and the girls!

I really like your idea of a glass sleeve too! This glass sleeve made with brightly colored fabrics would make for a nice addition to a Fun, Summery Cold beverage basket! A tall, brightly colored, plastic iced tea glass/margarita glass/rock glass, fun shapes ice cube tray, colorful plastic straw, umbrella, tea bags, flavored water mix, bottled water, colorful cheap kids sunglasses, lemonade, margarita mix, Skittles, M & M's, any bright colored candies in a clear jar/dish, frisbee, anything bright and summery! This is a fun/cheery basket!

All of these can be made from dollar store items, too.

llwornell .....Thank you for sharing this idea. I really like this pattern! And it can be personalized, too! Very neat idea!

We are due to host the Family Christmas Party next year. I would love to make one of these for each of the 40+ family members for gifts. The family is getting large and very hard to make/afford everyone a personalized gift. But this looks like a doable and affordable idea! Could I ask you to share a copy of the pattern with me? This looks like a fun project to take on!

Have you seen the tea wallets? They are fun to make. I carry one in my purse for my teas and sweetener packets. Here is a link to one style, but there are more patterns on the internet with more pockets or that just fold like an envelope with the flap tucked inside.

May be some cute quilted hot pads and appliqued dish towels . . .

JudeWill 02-05-2010 07:57 AM

That's a great website! My SIL gave me one of those coasters to use for a pattern, only it was made with just five squares and the squares were folded into triangles. When I made them, I put a square of warm & soft in the middle. They soak up more moisture that way and it does not go thru to the other side. They are quick & easy to make and people love them.

karielt 02-05-2010 11:13 AM

Thank you so much I'm getting so many good Ideas and links to some fun things I can do.

Thank you!

LindaR 02-06-2010 05:33 AM

I looked for instructions for the snap bag and couldn't find it...I have some typed up I can PM you if you would like them...I used 2 FQ's each for the bags but they are different...

butterjoy 02-06-2010 06:19 AM

I tried to find a photo of the ironing board caddy but could not find one. Did you find out what it looks like?

butterjoy 02-06-2010 06:23 AM
