Nice. Do you have any photos you can share? Unfortunately I can't crochet anymore due to arthritis in the base of my thumbs. I used to love it.

You could always go to the goodwill in your area. When they are changing seasonal clothing I believe they mark their clothing down and you could probably purchase them cheaper than buying new buttons in a store.

I just came across a site it is www.buttonsgalore.com
not sure what they have just came acrossed it.

I look for buttons at thrift and goodwill stores, also yard sales. Presently I'm making an "altered book" called How To Sew On A Button. It's for my son. I have a few photos to add to pages on sewing on a button, also a bit of history on buttons and then things that pertain to buttons in general. Example: belly button, I have a photo of a tomato that looks like it has a belly button. My sister gave me buttons that she made by cutting deer antlers, those are neat.

blackbearbetty 11-15-2010 06:13 PM

Homesew.com has alot of buttons.

Scakes 11-15-2010 06:46 PM

Buttons. Buttons. I like buttons. LOL. I watch for them on clearance racks; use coupons for discounts; watch the local thrift stores, yard sales, etc. Bag sales at the thrift stores can be a good source as long as the bag price is reasonable. I've brought home many a $1 and $2 bags full of clothes with neat buttons on them. You'd be surprised how much you can stuff in a bag - especially if you roll things up. The clothes can also be taken apart and used as fabric, trims, rags, etc.

I remember going through my grandmother's buttons. I still have some that look like horse shoes.

Casperscott 11-15-2010 09:53 PM

I sure can relate. I hate a thief. I was robbed a couple of months ago. I'm still sick.

Fabric.com has 20% off buttons, just got an ad from them. If you search long enough, you'll find what you're looking for. Good luck.

I find that Joann's source is limited and pricey. Where have all the buttons gone?

I remember when there used to be racks and racks of buttons... all sizes; all prices and a lot of colors. Thanks for your help in advance.
I go to the rummage sales where you bag up stuff for a dollar or two and get stuff with lots of buttons or ones I like. Great source. I have a large jug full.
:-D

That is a neat site..

Zappycat 11-16-2010 03:24 PM

Donna,
I buy all of my buttons at flea markets. I know that soesn't help you for right now, but something to think about for next spring and summer. Some are very pricey now, but you can still, on a good day, find a mason jar full for $2. I love buttons and have zillions of them because I use them on sachets that I make. I would love to see your pincushions too because I have been thinking about making some! Post photos soon!!

Ladybug 1938 11-16-2010 05:04 PM

Cool idea! Sounds very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I went to Spokane today and found some buttons at Hobby Lobby which didn't cost an arm and a leg. I am trying to make time to look in all the places everyone has suggested. I don't know why life and housework have to get in my way?

That makes me sad that someone who didn't give a wit about your memories, stole from you. I pray that the Lord will restore those to you in unique ways. God bless you. :-D
