if your budget allows for it do it. The price will be alot higher later on when you do want it.

GwynR 11-30-2011 07:02 PM

At 60% off, buy buy buy!!!

craftyheart2 11-30-2011 09:36 PM

My LQS closed a week ago. I am a scrappy quilter so I bought pieces larger enough for backings and borders in their closing sale.

jitkaau 12-01-2011 03:58 AM

I'm de-stashing and have not bought new material for a very long time.

Nantie 12-01-2011 04:02 AM

I am trying not to increase my stash, but when i go to one of the lqs i can't resist looking at ther $5/yard batiks in the clearance room...in there i have no willpower...beautiful batiks at $5/yard several yards end up going home with me

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 12-01-2011 04:17 AM

I would buy backing or background material. I bought a large amount of white and cream kona but decided to work from my stash. I was lucky enough to get free material from someone who was cleaning out their stash so I have a good amount. I'll only buy if I have a project in mind and need something to coordinate with what I have. I found when I buy something just because I like it, it sits there and I don't find anythinjg I want to do with it.

alfosa421 12-01-2011 04:41 AM

if you can afford to Go For It!!!!

lfletcher 12-01-2011 05:37 AM

I usually try to use from my stash when I can, but 60% off is a really good sale and I think I would probably go for it.

Wingsofjoy 12-01-2011 05:55 AM

I am doing good at getting rid of my stash. I have told myself that I will not buy anymore material just to be buying it unless it is something that I really really love. I have been doing good at only buying material for a project I plan to do in the near future. I also have told myself I am not going to buy a piece of material unless I find at least one piece to go with it at the same time. In the past I have bought a piece I thought was pretty then never could find anything else to go with it so it ended up being used in a scrap quilt or I gave it to someone else. Now if I could resist buying sewing gadgets...... lol

luvTooQuilt 12-01-2011 06:02 AM

I have no will power ... I'd be there with cc in hand ..... I have enough fabric to last me two lifetimes x10 but why is it that I cant ever find 'that' fabric I need for my project in my stash?!?!?!!

cheaha39 12-01-2011 06:08 AM

At 60% I wouldn't pass it up, but with today's money, I would be looking for something that would compliment my stash. Ok now , $40.00 is my limit and I am carrying $40.00 cash only.

Butterflyblue 12-01-2011 06:40 AM

I did forget about backings - I would go in looking for some good basic backing fabric. I never have enough for backing on hand, and always try to get backing fabrics on clearance.

Same here! I like to test myself and go to sales to look at things, and sometimes I actually do walk away without buying. I tell myself that I'm just there to enjoy the fabric shopping experience, which may or may not include buying.

Doreen 12-01-2011 06:46 AM

I would have to at least look. I am using my stash. It's almost out of control.

Opal Jane 12-01-2011 06:51 AM

Absolutely!!! I don't think I could pass up a 60% off sale.

Me too boo hoo!

Stitchit123 12-01-2011 08:10 AM

I 'm a planner -while browsing I spot what I want to get and wait for next weeks coupon.I shop a lot at Hancocks on the 1st and 3rd weds. They give a 15%off entire purchase to Sr citizens I stretch my fabric budget til it screeches.

crafterrn1 12-01-2011 08:42 AM

It depends on the fabric. Do I have fabric in the stash to go with it. Do I have a pattern begging to use it. Does it cause my to create a pattern just for that fabric!

RDM 12-01-2011 08:44 AM

I'm trying to use stash and buy only what I need to complete projects. That said-60% off would cause me to see what I did need for borders, backings, etc.

CarrieC 12-01-2011 08:56 AM

I'm a mixed bag - we are tightening our belts, but I have a bit of fabric money to spend. At 60% off it is just too good to miss. I look for backings, I look for blenders. I also love batiks so I'd poke through them too. Occasionally I find a fabric that speaks to me and I get that.

I wonder though - of amounts. I try to buy 1 yard each of blenders and batiks (if I'm not doing something specific) and I buy 3 yards of a focus fabric.

Anyone else have ideas for amounts?

granny216 12-01-2011 09:05 AM

I'm using up my stash....and it is very large because I've been making quilts since the 70's. I try not to go to quilt stores
any more. Making a scrap quilt uses lots of fabric and fortunately my family likes them as much as I do. Have a friend that has a quilt shop and it is awful to go there and not buy something I really don't need. Will have to clean out that stash.
Bet I have way over 100 yards, then there are the smaller pieces and whatever. You should see the room in the base
ment...Have to clean it out now and will have a garage sale in the spring...fabric, buttons, add ons, mats cutting wheels and I can go on forever. Sold some fabric at our last sale but this time the sewing stuff is going to be listed in cap letters as my friend did that ans she was able to clear out at least half of her stash.

dunster 12-01-2011 09:07 AM

If you don't add to the stash now and then it goes stale. ;-)

I buy fabrics when they're at a good price, and never when they're not. I have a couple of patterns in mind that need 1930's fabrics, and I have absolutely none of that, so if I found it on sale at a great price I would buy some. And I'm always looking for batiks at a great price.

alikat110 12-01-2011 05:46 PM

Not gonna make large purchases, but not restricting myself!!!

Pieces2 12-02-2011 05:09 AM

I would purchase the fabric. LQS fabric is good quality fabric, too good of a deal to pass up at 60% off.
As long as it is quality fabric. Sometimes they put bolts of fabric 'on sale' and it is not LQS quality.
With the price of fabric going up I would take advantage of such a great sale.
Be sure to purchase something you would use in your type of quilts. Tone-on-tone,
or for backing fabrics, size of quilts you make will depend on the yardage to purchase.

misscarol 12-02-2011 05:16 AM

I would still use up my stash!

pocoellie 12-02-2011 05:31 AM

It would depend on if I had the money to spare, although I desperately need to use up my stash. LOL

Are you asking because your LQS is having a big sale? If so, where is it??? As you can tell, I'm all about a great sale! Even if I didn't have a particular pattern in mind, for 60% off, I would buy some nice neutral colors...tone on tones that can be used for future projects.

coldquilter 12-02-2011 05:53 AM

I would like to think that I would use up my stash but if I were in the store and it was 60% off, I am pretty sure I would have a hard time saying no. ... have to replenish the stash sometime.

jnfmd14412 12-02-2011 05:54 AM

I always look at the sales fabric. Sometimes I find some that goes with other fabric I have and even if I haven't decided yet on what to do with it, I will buy some. I also look for fabric on sale that I can practice my long arm quilting on or for backing.

QuiltforPD 12-02-2011 06:27 AM

if I liked it and it was 60% off, I would buy it even if I didn't have a purpose in mind. I am and addict.

bvillequilter 12-02-2011 06:31 AM

60% off for 100% cotton first quality fabric???? My God, I would buy it all!

Carrie Jo 12-02-2011 06:37 AM

I have all the stash I can find places for. So I would try to use some of what I have.

olebat 12-02-2011 07:00 AM

Oh yes, I'd look and if the fabric appealed to me, probably buy. That is the nature of a stash - self perpetuation.

newbee 12-02-2011 07:35 AM

I am a sucker for fabric on sale! While I am trying to use my stash, I would have to at least look at the fabric--and buy some, I am sure. In fact. one of our LQS is having a 30 percent off everything sale between Christmas and New Years--and I'll certainly be there for the sale!

Annaquilts 12-02-2011 07:37 AM

I would buy enough for backs and borders because of the rising cost of fabrics. This way you can use your stash at home. It has been working for me.

runninL8 12-02-2011 07:39 AM

I would only buy if I truly loved it - or it was the "one" fabric that would blend with my stash for that perfect quilt!

BarbM32 12-02-2011 07:41 AM

I buy very little fabrics but when I see something I want...I get it.

delma_paulk 12-02-2011 07:51 AM

I would buy the sale! Just me, don't like to pass a good bargain.
