Buy or Use Up Stash??
Would you buy LQS fabric on sale, say at 60% off, even if you didn't have a particular pattern in mind, or would you still try and use up your stash?
Right now, I'd try to use up stash, but that is because we are on a tight budget. I usually buy fabric on sale to add to my stash so if it were normal circumstances, a-shopping I would go! ;)
depends on the day. some days, i tell my self, i have enough, other days, i see a good sale, and tell myself 'prices are going up, buy, buy, buy'.
60% sounds pretty good. If I had the opportunity I would at least buy some for backing fabrics at that price, or even some blenders for use with fabrics I might already have. Then of course there is that one fabric you just have to have and....it's 60% off. I would probably check out the sale.

I am a real jerk! I would buy the fabric if I had the money...and put it with my stash to be used up someday...lol
both- i am always using from my stash- but when a fabric appeals to me-and is a great price i buy it- i seldom have a pattern in mind- unless i am currently working on something- i buy fabric i love- when i see it-and can afford it- so most of my fabric is my stash- i am always working out of my stash
I think I could justify buying at least a little bit at 60% off! I'd probably spend way too much time browsing, trying to decide what to get, and then would overbuy! (Go buy some if you can!)
I would tell myself to use my stash while I was paying for the new fabric. I have no willpower.
If I found fabric I really liked, I would buy it. Did that today. :)
Love that %.....would have a hard time not taking advantage of it!
Depends on where I'm at in my own particular binge/purge cycle of fabric buying. :) I tend to have a buying fast for several months, trying to use up stash, and then suddenly lose all self control and buy yards and yards of fabric on sale.
Right now I'm trying not to bring any more fabric home, so I'd be avoiding that store. |
If I had the money to do that I would. A good sale should not be passed by. I only buy on sale right now and I do not have a big stash so I am not doing all I want to do right now but, I am still looking up.
Depends on if I had the money and the space. Right now I have neither - so I have to go with my stash.
I'd have to go check it out at least. 60% is about wholesale so they are trying to clear out old stuff before inventory comes along. You may find wonderful bargains or just the stuff you didn't want the last time you were there. I vote for checking it out, with your purse locked in your car.....if you can't pass up the bargain, you still have to go outside before you hand over the $$$.

At 60% off, I would definitely shop!
In the past, I would have bought. Now, I'm trying to use up my stash.
It would depend on the fabric and how big my stash is . A good stash is always being rotated , and fabrics making there way into projects... but if there has been far more input .... and very little output...... leave the $$ in your pocket ... there will be more sales... and the fabrics keep getting better every year !
I would buy now if I found something I liked. Who knows what fabric prices will be a year from now.
you can never have enough fabric I go to lqs and monday to JoAnns sales it is
I have a hard time resisting fabrics at full price - much less fabric at 60% off! :(
There is no way I should need to buy fabric right now, but I've just bought 30 yards in the last few days - because I don't have the perfect ones in my stash. It's insane. |
I have so much fabric now that I am trying to use what I have. Its not a bargin if you do not need it. Now I am feeling pretty good about using what I have in the stash. It took a year to build it.
using one's stash can be a great exercise in creativity.
At that price, I would at least look and see. I guess I would buy fabric in my color range to have on hand.

I'd buy some if I liked it, especially at 60% off!!

If I really liked the fabric I would buy some. Otherwise I would try to use up my stash.
I'd go over my U.F.O list in my mind and think if it would be a good time to get border, binding or backing fabric for those projects. At 60% it would be hard to pass up.
60% off is a great sale....I would at least look.....and probably buy......lots!
I have vowed to not buy more fabric unless it is blender materials. I have lots of prints but blenders are always in demand... so I guess if it were a blender and I liked it, I'd probably buy the bolt lol.
Use your stash.. I don't have nearly as much as some of you, but if you think about it, do we have more than what we can ever use in our lifetime? We can always donate some of ours to someone that doesn't have, and can't afford.. and then buy the new stuff..

Would I? Yes. Despite the fact that I have way too much fabric. That is why I am going on a 1 year No Buy except for swaps or fabric needed to finish a UFO. I need to get the stash down.
I only use clearance fabric (at LQS) for backings, so I'd get enough for 2-3 backings rather than for an unplanned project. Perhaps by the time I'm ready to use the backing, something might come to mind, but in the meantime, I have a nice backing. |
I said I would not buy material until next May. However, my LQS had 40 percent off on Black Friday and I already had 85 dollars in gift cert. at that store. I could not pass up the chance to make my Gift Cert. go even farther. We are all fabricholics, lets just admit it.
As much as I hate to admit it, I'd buy. Not only would I buy it but at 60% off I would figure that I could buy 60% more and break even!

If I loved the fabric, it would be really hard for me to pass up. That's a sale that I would love!
I buy the majority of fabric when on sale. However, my thought is: I need to buy what ever I can afford now---because
when I retire, I won't be able to afford it!!! |
it never hurts to buy a little fabric you dont have a plan for but with my budget these days i make sure its not very often.
most of the time i have a plan or at least an idea of what its for. i must admit the only black friday sale i attended was at joanns i had coupons and specific stuff in mind and although i saved a bundle i didnt get too carried away all i can say is what a sale lol. carla m |
