I noticed that some online fabric offer free shipping, which is good if you live hours away from the nearest fabric store. Is there any suggestions to which is tried and trusted.

np3 11-22-2010 11:45 AM

I buy online a lot even with 7 fabric stores here in town. I don't have any favorites with free shipping. Sometimes they offer discounted shipping. Was there some store you were interested in?

deema 11-22-2010 11:51 AM

Connecting Threads offers free shipping (in the US) for orders over $50 (at least, the do right now). I'm in Canada, so no free shipping for me :( But I just received my first order from them today and am very pleased with the fabric quality and will definitely order from them again. Even paying shipping, it's cheaper for me to order from them than to shop locally for the quality of fabric (which is kind of sad).

dellareya 11-22-2010 11:55 AM

I love to go to Equilter.com. I like to see the new arrivals. Equilter has them long before our local fabric stores. They are very prompt on shipping.

hmay60 11-22-2010 11:57 AM

Fabric.com has free shipping with a $35 order, and they have great sales too.

Annaquilts 11-22-2010 11:58 AM

Hancock of Paducah is one I order from and batting from Joann. I also buy lots off Ebay lately both used and new fabric and from small quilt stores or online quilt stores. The only one I have had problems with is Keepsake quilting. Yardage that was short an inch and FQ that where cut really weird and small.

Here is more information.

I recently ordered from Rocking Chair Quilts. They offer free shipping over $30. They called me the same day I placed the order to confirm some information, and sent out the package Priorty Mail. Good customer service.

Decent sales as well.

I am basically housebound, so I do 99% of my fabric shopping on line. So far I haven't had any trouble with anyone I've ordered from. Some are slower than others, but all the fabric I've purchased as been very nice. Lots are folder to look pretty, lots are in plastic bags, several have a sticker as to what fabric you bought. I've gotten lots of free shipping, and if I didn't the prices of the fabric made up for it. I've ordered from all the stores listed on this thread as well as most on the thread JenniePenny put on here.

Bluphrog 11-22-2010 12:55 PM

Missouri Star Quilt Company offers $5 shipping on orders up to $99, then free shipping for orders $100 or more.

ashlett 11-22-2010 01:03 PM

I use fabric shack all the time, have done for ages, they are great. They charge a minimal postage and they have very good sales all the time.

katier825 11-22-2010 01:50 PM

If you are into Batiks or Asian prints, Seawatch Fabrics is a great place to shop. Free shipping over $30 everyday, shipping is priority and is quick. They also have some fabrics printed specially for them, so you can't find them anywhere else. I'm always pleased with my orders!

If you sign up for the shop hop emails, you will get ads from places that occasionally offer free shipping.

littlehud 11-22-2010 01:50 PM

Fabric.com and Connecting Threads are my favorites.

collector49 11-22-2010 02:07 PM

Delta Patchwork is another good one.

CarrieAnne 11-22-2010 02:16 PM

I love Connecting Threads!

Renoquilting 11-22-2010 02:24 PM

How about Cotton Patch? Has anyone ordered from them?

I am in Canada also and have also bought from Connecting Threads and liked their service and the quality of the fabrics i bought. I have also bought from Favorite fabrics and love their fabric also. Even with shipping it is much cheaper to buy online than at any local shops. And yes, I agree that it is sad. I don't understand why the same fabrics that we can buy here are soooo much cheaper in the US even after paying the shipping charges.

Joeysnana 11-22-2010 04:39 PM

Connecting Threads, Fabric.com, and Hancock's of Paducah online are my favorite sites.

And you should see it in person!!!! They are for me - it's located in a small town full of antiques shops and is a wonderful place to spend the day!

There is also their other store that has every possible piece of decorator fabric and trim imaginable!!

akgranny 11-22-2010 09:44 PM

buying fabrics on line is easier if you sign up for all the newsletters ..... they'll let you know when they have good deals like free shipping or half price sales. i keep a list of all the online shops i come across, browse and sign up for their newsletters. have had a lot of good deals and no problems.

JenniePenny 11-23-2010 04:08 AM

This is my first place to go, and has been for about 6 years now.

http://www.quiltshops.com

It's a compilation of 200 or so stores. You can search for what you want, example, Clothworks black, or Moda moire, then you will be able to see all the stores that are carrying what you want. Then just compare prices, and order from the individual store.

Me too. I have often found a specialty fabric I needed when I couldn't find it anywhere else. Now, I go there first.

When they have free shipping, I get fabric from The Virginia Quilter. They have excellent quality fabric and great service.

steelecg 11-23-2010 06:10 AM

Hancock of Paducah, connecting threads, Love Missouri Quilt Co - I haven't had any trouble with online purchases - Grandmother's Attic was great as well

mrs theo 11-23-2010 06:22 AM

I've ordered from several, but Connecting Threads is my favorite, I've never been disappointed by them!

bizybess 11-23-2010 06:47 AM

Whittles is my favorite you can't beat the prices. Not free shipping but the prices more than make up for it.
http://www.whittlesfabrics.com/ They are having a fall sale right now. Some fabric as low as $2.50 a yard.

Bluphrog 11-23-2010 06:55 AM

Thank you. Unfortunately, I donated that to a silent auction and the picture is the only thing I have left. I made it from a book called Moon Dance by Cary Flanagan. I purchased the book from The Cotton Club. It's really good for panels and large print fabrics. That particular quilt was only 18" square.

I think their fabric is quite thin compared to my local quilt shop. It's ok for charity quilts but I don't like it for something really special that you want tighter thread count on.

Tudey 11-23-2010 07:27 AM

Fabric.com and Fabric Depot have both been good for me. Also, Connecting Threads has some nice inexpensive fabrics and they are pretty reliable.

mic-pa 11-23-2010 07:30 AM

I have ordered from www.ethelbird.com and love there fabric. It is good quality and I have spoke to the owner on the phone. Also Eleanor Burns website, www.quiltinaday.com has lots of fabric (quality) at excellent prices. those are the two I am familiar with.

Parrothead 11-23-2010 07:57 AM

I have ordered twice from Over the Rainbow fabric. They carry quality fabric and are very prompt. Plus they do a "generous" cut, 1-4 more inches. I am very pleased with them. They also have the fusible fleece in a wide width by the yard. You can do a bow tuck with just 1 yard.

Sannianni 11-23-2010 08:37 AM

I noticed that on Fabric.com, if you put some fabrics on the design board and you don't order, they will come back with a coupon for you, along with the free shipping on $35 purchase!

doowopddbop 11-23-2010 08:39 AM

Fabric.com used to offers free shipping if your order is over $35

Jude 11-23-2010 09:40 AM

I've had good luck with Etsy.com (look under "supplies"). If you do your homework by going to the fabric maker websites you'll know what's new and "hot". Check too on what's happening on eBay for comparison. Older designs should carry closeout prices. With a bit of research you can get some really good deals there (low overhead). I've found some very good prices on great fabrics as well as fair shipping costs and quick service. Another "boon" is I've found that final one-yard-cut I need for fabric I've had around for a while.

terr-terr 11-23-2010 10:28 AM

I love Connecting Threads. I just received several yards of batik fabric - and I really like it.

Aunt Bea 11-23-2010 01:01 PM

I buy most of my fabric on line. Have always been pleased with Connecting Threads. If you want to see what all the designers and Moda are offering, I like Quilthome.com. They also do free shipping with $50 order and ship priority mail. Get on their mailing list and get coupons every week. It's a great place.

My first order from them was missing one fabric and short 1/2 yrd on another. I called them and they rectified the error and shipped with no charge. And the fabric was marvelous. Very happy with them.

AnitaSt 11-23-2010 03:10 PM

I'm a fan of FabricDepot.com. Quick, reliable, good customer service and good sales. Also equilter.com, which has a great search function.

dphelps 11-23-2010 03:10 PM

I have purchased WAY TOO MUCH fabric on EBay and have had very good luck. I love Connecting Threads and I have had great success with Fabric Depot. They have great sales and quality fabrics for as low as $4.00 per yard.Fabric Depot's wide backings are rather inexpensive and very nice. Has anyone tried Thousands of Bolts?
