I have a book called "Once More Around the Block" by Judy Hopkins. It looks just like one in this book, with the title "Triangle".

I think it looks a lot like corn and beans, only the center is a smaller hour glass. Maybe it's been turned so the hour glass is off set on the dark/light?
Or the the four patch in the center is an hour glass instead, with more hst's around the outside edge.

Well ... <g> it takes looking at a lot of blocks, buying a lot of books or spending a lot of time surfing the net. Have you checked out the quilter's cache site? That lady really has done a lot of work to present a TON of different blocks in different sizes, using different techniques! She is a whiz!
You will learn, CHele, just keep looking around <g>. This site is really great for showing people where they got their blocks, and those sites you visit will usually have links and you just start looking.
I also happened to have access to some pretty good television programming when I first started fifteen years ago or so - - Simply QUilts, Quilt in a Day, and now Fons and Porter, some Kaye Woods ...
and, as you can see from all the input <g> a lot of guessing and by gollying!
God love all the quilters who have come before us and left examples of their attempts of making a utility item a real thing of beauty.
