Well......I did stick to my floor near the fridge.....but that's a quick wipe up! :) I also just learned I have an unplanned 5 days off. Thought I was going to have to work a day in the middle.....but yipee!!! Does the JanRN mean you are a nurse?? I recognize the work schedule if you are. :) Who else gets to work weekends and holidays on a regular basis?

I'm an RN. My dept. is open M-F with weekends and holidays covered by "on-call"...so yes...I do call about every 4-5 weekends and have one "major" holiday call per year. July 3'rd is part of my "weekend call", I also was on-call Saturday of Easter weekend, and my holiday call is New Years Day 2011.

And BTW...July 3rd is our wedding anniversary! And I get to spend it on-call and most likely at work! :(

The joys of being a nurse...

Happy anniversary. My daughter has same ann. date.
they will be married 40 years and left today for a short vacation.

We all suffer from the same illness. I even had a conversation with my husband and referred to my "online friends". He thought I was nuts.

RedGarnet222 07-02-2010 10:33 AM

I agree with you. The board does take time to read and respond to the posts. I love it though. Such nice people and great photos of quilts and projects! I have learned so much about new patterns, color matching, tools and fabric. I don't feel guilty one bit! I think of it as being in a guild. That takes tons of your time too. Right?
I think there are limits to our time, and I try to balance it out the best I can between family, garden, home, sewing and the board! LOL!

Tweety2911 07-02-2010 10:57 AM

Used to come home from work and do a little sewing, now I spend on this board and love reading comments, checking out new quilt sites and love, love the beautiful quilt pictures. My quilting projects have now been moved to the weekends. And yes, learning alot!! Thank you all

janb 07-02-2010 10:57 AM

I have picked up lots of ideas and hints since joining the Board. Have no one to bounce ideas off of, so this really fills the bill.

granny guilter 07-02-2010 11:00 AM

I know what you are talking about working weekends, holidays, whatever. I worked 13 years for the phone comlpany in operator services. No regular hours or shifts there. I hate holidays and weekends just because had to work them so much.

Been there, done that.

Hi, Bev...Welcome!

sylvia77 07-02-2010 02:25 PM

I can relate. I can't count the times I've been online (on this site of course!) and end up not getting anything done on what I'm working on at the moment.

loopywren 07-02-2010 03:18 PM

dublb 07-02-2010 03:26 PM

I'm so glad to be here.

sosewcrazy 07-02-2010 03:34 PM

I've been the same way! I'm hooked, and getting so many ideas! Now if I could just tear myself away from the computer, I could put those ideas to good use...

kwiltkrazy 07-02-2010 03:58 PM

Oh well, as time goes by you will get on here less and less, NOT! Just enjoy it and if need be put time limits on it. Like that will work. lol

eiltcoq 07-02-2010 07:51 PM

marsye, You are a good host. Thanks for the coffee and donut.

I think we need to come up with the 12 steps for quilters! Welcome to the board - I think of it as a guild that meets when I have time to attend, not one that I have to rearrange my life and my families life to get to, and classes that I can take when my brain is functioning.
I am a shift worker too, and live in Australia, so it is great for me

Irishlady 07-03-2010 02:51 AM

Hello and welcome. If you are anything like me, you'll find you will amass a great deal of very useful information and tips on here. Thats the upside, but the downside is you'll spend so much time on here reading all the posts that you'll never have the time to try much of anything out.

A poem, of sorts -
The early bird may get the worms,
But I don't like any food that squirms
Before I make my daily rounds (of sewing)
I like my coffee, freshly ground.

I got up yesterday, intending to hit Joann's for their big week-end sale (with coupons, of course) and to get their early. Even spent night before clipping snips from a quilt I am about to start, but needing a bit more fabric, stapled snips to paper and wrote all important info so I would be prepared and not too tempted to buy more than I NEEDED. (HA-as if!!) I just HAD to check e-mails before I left and 5 HOURS LATER I got in the car!! Yes, I'd say this site is addicting! BUT, I did get to Joann's and bought the most yummy fabs, threads (50% off) and batting and made a dent in my cc by several hundred dollars!!!! So much for being prepared so I didn't buy more than I needed!!!

DAWNROBIN 07-03-2010 12:05 PM

how many of us are thinking about Christmas quilts to start on for gifts ?

Sadheart 07-03-2010 01:09 PM

I so fell upon this site by accident. So enjoyed it!! That I joined it. Raged to my mom until she joined it. It is fun, educational, and so great to have you ladies to hear from. Your ideas have helped me and inspired me. I have wanted to make several quilts for a long time. I am now in the middle of two of them. And as I am learning. Have at least three. Waiting for the attenetion to become more than a thought. They are working up very fast. And thanks Mary for the site on hand sewing. Have several blocks sewed up and ready. My patriotic quilt is coming along great.
Son came in and said Mom would like to make a quilt for a friend. So everything got moved around so we could cut and design. It is almost ready to sew and I got a 4 day weedend. Ha ha ha And here I am on the board looking.
God bless you all.
Thanks

pennyswings 07-03-2010 04:42 PM

Welcome SQuilter. I know, I love this site too. There are so many great people here. They are all full of love, advice and humor.
Konstantin has some great tutorials and of course the members make some great ones too.
Glad you found us.

Granny B 07-04-2010 09:36 AM

Marsye, my hind quarters have grown exponentially since coffee and donuts with you!

SandyMac 07-04-2010 11:50 AM

Well just join the club,we all love the sit so much and welcome :-D

JoanneS 07-04-2010 06:25 PM

Welcome! I spend more time here than I'm willing to admit. I'm getting calluses on my left elbow from leaning on the computer desk - and my right hand is stuck in the 'mouse' position. And my chiropractor told me the problem with my back is that I sit on my ass too much ~ ~ ~

jolo 07-05-2010 04:14 AM

My elbow and hand is in the same position. How am I going to pick my peas like this? lol

judylg 07-05-2010 04:19 AM

I do the same thing, so much inspirtation that I get very little sewing and quilting done. I say to someone who is foolish enough to say to me that I waste too much time looking, to take a hike. I have spent over the years so much time helping others, it is about me and what I enjoy doing now! You do what makes you happy!!!

janRN 07-05-2010 04:23 AM

Judylg you are so right. I think we all spend most of our time doing for others--even most of our quilts end up with other people. Since I semi-retired, I'm doing more for "me" and if that means sleeping in til 7:30 (after getting up at 5:30 for 38 yrs) or spending hours on the computer or sewing, so be it!!

AmyM 07-05-2010 04:36 AM

I've been up since 5:30 (central) and been on since about 6:30. I look at all the beautiful pics and say "ohh I gotta do that"! and click to the next. I'd be the first to stand up and say, "Hi, my name is Amy, and I'm addicted to the quilting board!" I've learned sooo much since i've joined. Everyone is so wonderful. Welcome aboard!

pinot 07-05-2010 04:43 AM

Hi ladies! I got to know quilters by Facebook all over the world and now we would like to start a Round Robin. One quilter in California, in Malta, in Sweden, in Australia and me in France. The only thing I worrie about is: how safe will it be to sent quilts abroad.
Is there somebody who has any experiance?

Hah! 7:30 isn't sleeping in to me! That's getting up early! I'm a nightowl. I don't even take my Ambien CR until midnight, so I sleep till 8:30 or 9am.

mayday 07-07-2010 09:23 AM

it is addictive, super tuts, kind people, and gives you confidence.
just read and let the world go by!!

lisainmo 07-07-2010 12:11 PM

I also just joined and have been sitting on my behind reading these posts, learning new things and looking at all the beautiful quilts that people have posted. I can't wait til I can post a quilt I have done, and can only hope that it measures up to all of these I have seen.

GrammaNan 07-07-2010 02:20 PM
