I've used flannel for backing and it makes a warm quilt. I live in NJ and it's nice for the winter. Not hot, though.

If you use fleece or flannel, it will be a warm quilt.
I know some LAQ have tension problems with fleece, I love it. It quilts so nice as long as you don't tighten it. |
I have quilts both with fleece and flannel backings and I can tell you that they are WARM!!!! If you want it to be lightweight and cooler, use the prewashed flannel as batting and use a cotton backing. It will make a world of difference. The quilt will be much cooler and far more comfortable to use.
