There is a site on this form for old machines. Go there and tell them about the machines. They can be shipped, so don't send them to the dump...... Do any of the old back ones have the bobbin case going up and down not the lay in kind?

No to dump, again :).... If nobody grabs them up either Freecycle (if possible) or Goodwill.....

OMG, ***not*** the dump! There are many vintage machine collectors who love to fix up these old machines, and parts are still available for almost all of them. Many models of non-working black Singers are worth at least $30; a few collectible models are worth a lot more. Sometimes the tables are worth something as well. At the very least, post them on Craigslist or Freecycle (if you want to just give them away). On Freecycle you can specify that non-profit organizations will get first dibs.

Where are you located? There may be many people here who would like to buy a machine. Or two. Or three.

I just wanted to add that even non-fixable vintage machines have value, as people dis-assemble them and sell the parts! Some Goodwills sell "parts only" machines for $5 and they are snatched up by sewing machine dealers and others who work on old machines (or who sell on eBay).

I took a machine I picked up free at a yard sale to a sewing machine place - I didn't want it, but I offered it to him for parts - and he seemed quite happy to get it.

He offered to trade a tune-up/adjustment on my serger for the machine. So it must have had some value to him.

Perhaps a sewing machine repair place would take them - for parts for other old machines?
