Please don't dump them.. I learned on a machine from the 60's that someone was going to dump.. and made my first quilt on it.. I'm sure someone can use it.. I picked a machine up on freecycle for a neighbor, cleaned it up, and she now is learning on it, and it hums.. People who can not afford a machine, and want to learn, would be happy to take it off your hands.. Where there is a will, there is a way, and just think.. You might get someone else to join the board..

Don
t know where you are ... . Some churches in our area donate machines to go to Mexico with various missions. Believe me the machines are well taken care of once they are received. ali |
They are not featherweights because these machines are hinged to the cabinets. The cabinets for the featherweights came out some time in the 50's I do not remember exactly when because Mr Parsons made the first cabinet for the featherweight after the Singer rep. told him that it could not be done. A box was made to fit the bottom of the featherweight machine and then the box fit into the cabinet. I know it was done because I was there. Later on Mr P. somewhat modifed the cabinet for better fitting but I no remember exactly how.

Sure would like to see pics of the last 2 machines.

ALL old machines deserve a second life, the only ones worthy of being a boat anchor are those with busted nyon gears, pretty much everything else can be salvaged, even dead motors. Nylon gears cost too much to repair and are too time consuming and complicated for the diy person.:)

I love the singers, would be willing to pay the postage on one of them.

Judy, I might be able to find it a ride to the Cities for you. We have a church member that goes there quite regularly for work. Not sure what part of the Cities he goes or what his schedule is but pm me with a phone # I can give him to make arrangements. We would like a $20 donation to our missions group on the Singers.

The Necchi sewing machine is also a collectible...but, parts are hard to find.
Hope they make some money for the mission. |
