I would leave in all the Seuss fabrics and take out the green and red and put in substitute them with the yellow so there is more continuity of color. Busy is good for a baby. If you want the white sashing that's fine but I like the Seuss more. Put something soft and cuddle on the back like a fleece and it will be her favorite. Babies respond to colors and texture. Remember this is a baby quilt not a quilt show quilt. It's darling!

The white sashing did the trick. I would put either blue or red binding

Well, I like it how you have it now. It might be busy for an adult quilt but not a child's.

I was going to suggest a black in between the blocks.

Thanks, all. How about if I do something like this (and also add a column in addition to the ones shown and make it a child's twin size). Then I can create a wide border of Seuss to finish it off?
Is this an improvement? If I solved my own problem I have the board to thank anyway! Writing this down for you helped my brain reset. BTW, about removing the non-blues, my artistic relatives insisted that I should leave them. They add SPARKLE. I think that's actually true now, but I agree they were an eyesore with the busy quilt. |
I like it as is, with maybe using one of the blues as a thin border, and if you have enough, using the Dr. Seuss fabric as the outer border. It's a great kids quilt, so many objects and colors to look at, and later on matching items in the blocks, kids have great imaginations and they do like bright colors.

Keep going! Just think of the fun she will have playing "I spy" with that wonderful quilt.

In the end it will be a wonderful quilt, and I hope you will post a pic of the finished one for us to see : )

I love it. Kids love color. But, I think I would frame each block with a 1 1/2 stip of a solid color (Blue) around all 4 sides and put it together. I think it will help to contain the prints. I just love the hopscotch setting. I really love your use of the prints.
OOOps, I didn't see it with the white sashing. Should have looked further down. I love the white sashing. It looks great. I also love the darker blues in it. Hope you kept them. This is such a fun quilt. Hope to see it when you finish. |
I would bind it in orange, and call it "kid colorful". Babies are visual so bright colors attract their attention. I make traditional quilts with non-traditional colors, and your fits the bill. I love it.

I would try dark blue sashing about 2 1/2" wide with light blue cornerstones. I definitely think you should keep going with the quilt. It will be cute even if you keep it as is.
