I have read about the 301 being a great machine and thought I would do some looking on e-bay to see if there were any selling and of course there were. Bid on a couple of the black short beds and was outbid soon-and decided I would just look at some Goodwill stores in the Kansas City area while up there going to a Dr's appointment today. Before I went to the city, I needed to go to the bank and get a little cash. As I came out of the parking lot of the bank I spy a newly opened little flea market and guess what? I stopped and asked if they had any older sewing machines and the gentleman said they have one and it is kinda older in a cabinet. Had never seen a cabinet like it and asked to open and see the machine. TaDa--a tan 301!! Plugged her in and off she went. $55.00. I am a happy camper! Checked the ebay black one I had last bid on and it sold for $242.00 plus shipping. So glad I saw that little shop. My camera is not working at the moment maybe I can send a picture later.

You can definitely have too many sewing machines.

This useful information is supplied to you by my husband.

Love it! My hubby simply does not understand the 'need' for more than one machine - & he is practically tripping over all the ones living in my home now. However, if I compare it to his many shotguns, his eyes glaze over & I get no response. :)

Gosh, I hope that there isn't an upper limit! between my daughter and I we have 7... two featherweights, a singer 99 treadle, a singer 301 in a cabinet, a riccar serger, a janome MC 4000 and a bernina 430, and we love them all :-)

I have black thread in one machine and white in another. That way I can just sit down to sew if I have a quick mending project. Awful thought right? My family still expect me to do mending for them. I've tried using, "you wouldn't ask Picasso to paint your garage, would you?" but they won't buy that excuse. It's alright because if they ask why I am getting another machine, i say "it's for mending."
