Mock Cathedral Window ~ plus a twist of quarter square triangles on one side. That what seems to give it the scrappy mellons.

Here is a link for making Mock Cathedral Windows ~ http://sunshinescreations.vintagethr...l-windows.html

In the case of the quilt show in this thread, just make the circle on the back side from a 4 patch from which you have cut out a circle. You'll have a solid on the front, a 4 patch trimmed into a circle on the back.

When it is assembled, be sure to sew from corner to corner of the 4 patches to create the HSTs on the reverse of the quilt. No need to make HSTs this way.....4 patches are easier to piece!

Duh....yes Jan in VA a 4 patch would be much easier..my mind only saw 1/4 squares triangles...it all in how you turn the circle.

This IS a pattern Ii originally learned through Quilters Haven "Quilting With Charlie"

I have made this technique and it is a lot of fun to do. Grows fast and make as big as you want.
