I work at a shelter, thick stuff tends to get torn up and clog drains and washers and dryers. Thinner stuff is preferred just speaking from 13years working at a large animal shelter. Honestly the best thing that last the longest are towels and fleece blankets. Most other stuff gets ruined and tossed fast

I have sewed through fake fur, fleece, flannel and chenille on my dinky Brother mechanical machine from Costco which is about 15 years old, maybe older. It will sew through anything. I do change the needle and stitch length. I have a lot of machines, including Brother PQ1500. It works great too. Maybe it is a solvable issue with a new needle and stitch length.
