go to goggle and search the word "traversin" you will be suprised at what you will find. Lots of info on the bolster and bolster covers plus what they were used for.

I agree, an European bolster cover would be my guess.

If I were going to hide one, I would just make a flat piece of fabric, sides hemmed, with eyelet or trim to match your guest room deco on the ends, and roll the batting in it. If your primary purpose is to store batting, what about making a flat piece and put velcro on the edges you want to close? One heck of a lot faster than trying to "stuff" batting in a long tube. And a bit faster than a few stitches along the edge.

Thanks - I have seen many over the years, with ends closed and ends open. They always had long pillows in them or bolsters whatever you want to call them, but I never knew thei name of the outside covering.

Having read the replies that say it might be a cover for a bolster pillow, and the descriptions given here (of course I googled it too),....lo and behold, I was reading THE HELP, and there was a bolster pillow in the story! Complete with ribbons on the ends! lol

Could you use it for storing a quilt...roll up the quilt, insert inside and then place on bed as a bolster? Whenever an extra cover is needed, just take it out and use.
