can't decide on a pattern

This summer I have family coming in from Europe to visit. My cousin's granddaughter is coming with them. She is 10 and I was thinking I would like to make a quilt to take home with her. I can't decide on a pattern.
Everyone here is so good with ideas I thought I could just ask you guys for ideas. I am thinking of a not so difficult pattern so I can get it done fairly quick. I don't want to buy anymore fabric - I have bills to pay:p I have these fabrics that go together nicely that I bought and then changed my mind. The blue cuddle on the bottom is for the back. Beautiul colors. The first thing to come to mind would be a DP9 or a simple 9-Patch. Both of these are my go to patterns for quick and easy and simple and cozy.

Is this something she could make with you? Keep her busy, and make a memory? Maybe a rail fence she could cut and layout and stitch.

DP9 with the star pattern in the center, the blue as the side pieces and the tan in the tiny square. It will look great.

Are you making this or do you intend for her to do it with your help? It depends on her interest and skills. Even a simple quilt made of alternating squares can be fun for a beginner. There would be very little matching of seams but the order of the squares can make an interesting design, such as Trip Around the World. It could be tied--another technique for her to learn and do on her own.

I might use the 3 fabrics for the MSQC Strip Butterfly pattern. Another good one is the MSQC Pins and Paws cat pattern in just the 2 blue fabrics. They are both easy patterns and I find young people like an easily recognizable pattern.

I'm from Germany, and you may find that European tastes are different than American. I would wait until you meet her - at that age she already knows what she likes and may not be a fan of blues but instead would like animal prints or a modern purple graphic. If you're going to have her help, perhaps a string quilt would work - it's what I usually use to teach a beginner.

Carpenter's star is a free pattern and very quick, I think it would be lovely with your 2 blues for the star and the white
background. |
