For the life of me I can not remember what this is called, and can't find it on the internet.......I think it is a silicone sheet, that is placed over the throat of the sewiing machiine, that allows the fabric to slide more easy when doing quilting, free motion quilting etc.....i thought some one even said once that the silicone sheets they sell for baking could be used.....I thought it was called a "Slip sheet"....but can not find it any where.... I am having a total no recall moment....(had grandkids all week end).........Thank you in advance, I know someone here will have the answer....

supreme slider???

I think you are thinking of a "supreme slider". Good luck with your search.

I got the Sew Slip - it's more than twice the size for the same price:
http://www.ericas.com/quilting/tools/misctools.htm The new Queen Size Supreme Slider isn't quite this big and it costs $60! |
I'm curious... Has anyone had any luck making their own out of dry erase board or something like that? I haven't ever seen or touched or tested a Supreme Slider, so I may be way off-course.... ?
I read that some people use the teflon baking sheets from Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
OK....so now the question is which one have you used and is better.....the Supreme Slider or the Sew Slip.....both kinda pricey at just under $30.00
I bought a silicone baking sheet from Amazon, its larger, works great...$12-15 dollars, free 2 day shipping...

Very slippery on top and tacky underneath. As the tacky side gathers lint, it loses it's grip and you just wash it under clear water and let it air dry and it's tacky, again. No need to tape it to your machine. |

example ... my hubby bought this for me at Harbor Freight, it was on sale I think for $6. Most quilt shops sell something similar for using as a handle on big rulers and charge $15-20 http://www.harborfreight.com/bath-sa...dle-96086.html |
forgot to add that I put a bit of the rubbery shelf liner under the silicone baking mat, it doesn't slide at all...the thicker liner, not the thin...

I bought a yard of JoAnn's heaviest vinyl and cut a hole for my needle area. It drapes over the machine and cabinet. It stays in place with nothing to hold it. I was surprised I didn't need tape.
I use the clear vinyl I purchased at Hobby Lobby. It clings to the sewing machine and the sewing table. I cut the hole to fit the plate. It is wonderful and I don't worry about wear and tear on the sewing table. No pin scratches on my machine. Quilts slide wonderfully. I spent $2.49. Using it 4 years and can't tell it is over one day of use.

wow, thanks for the link, I will need to go and buy me one of those things for my ruler

The clear vinyl at JoAnn's works great. Just remember to cut a hole for your needle to go through. Don't buy the very lightest vinyl. I bought a medium weight.

there is a silicone sheet for the bottom of your oven whcih is larger
I bought heavy mil vinyl and stapled it to my table only, I did not extend it onto my machine. Im new here, quilting my first quilt, queen size, DSM and I don't THINK Im having probs. How would I know the difference.
supreme slider or sew slip
I use the clear vinyl, have th slider but dont like it as well as the vinyl
I tried regular clear vinyl that I bought at Joanns and it works pretty good for me. and a whole lot cheaper.
Buy heavy clear plastic that comes on a roll at fabric stores (the kind used for tablecloths). It can be cut to any size and lays flat on sewing table and you can cut to any size. I cut a rectangle in mine to expose throat plate and cover the entire sewing area. Try it, very economical. I bought mine at Walmart.
I bought my supreme slider from Amazon and saved a bit. I think it works really great, my first use of it was using fusiable batting, no nasty residue on my machine bed, made it more than worth the $.
I would still like to see a pix of how you use the clear vinyl!

Keepsake Quilting has it .It's called Supreme Slider #8257
for those of you that have the plastic covering your table.. do you have it on there all the time? or just when you machine quilt? Does it make all sewing easier?
Thanks for all the tips on this subject.
I have the sew slip one and love it cheaper than the slider and just the same!
Am going to get a half yard of the heavy vinyl from Joann and try that first....
Thanks for all the ideas everyone!!!!!
I think I will try the JoAnn's vinyl too. Thanks everyone for the tip.

In a pinch you can tape parchment to the bed of the machine.
I did buy the supreme slider and its "ok", what I need is for my machine to be level with the tabletop, then the slider will really work, as for now I have to work uphill. |
The Supreme slider comes in 2 sizes. Leah Day has it on her website for sale. They aren't exactly cheap, but hers is as reasonable as any. She has the teflon washers that go under the bobbins to make them slide faster without jerking. I will look up the website and send it along. saw it yesterday. Be patient and I will send it.

If you watch thes tutorials, it may help with free motion quilting. Somewhere, if you dig into this, there is a picture of Leha using the supreme slider, which she also sells on her home page. She mentions the website during the message. She also critiques the Janome Horizon, which I bought and love. Would recommend and if you negotiate hard, you can get it for much less, about $2,000 if they are hungry for a sale, no table included or extras. This tutorial is great for new or betinning FMQs also. |
